4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20 HighWine (506) - Elk Grove Village, Illinois, USA - APR 5, 2012
Bottle. Batch 406 bottled on 2/15/11. Label says 2010 and 13.8% ABV. Maple pour with an extremely short lived beige head. No lacing. Dark brown sugar aroma. Full flavor but unusual. I get strong dark licorice in my mouth with sweetness. Maple flavors come forward but that could be residual effects from my contemplating the color. there’s some hop and roastiness flavors coming through now, along with booze. The brown sugar comes forward after the sip is gone. Interesting. Complex is too string of a word. I’d stick with unusual...but good.

Full-some barley wine collaboration beer...
Fairly good looking beer, nothing really in terms of head unfortunately. What was there disappeared fast but of course the density of the beer and the alcohol content explain this sufficiently.
Nose is a little disappointing for a beer of this complexity - it’s all in the taste really which doesn’t disappoint. It’s multilayered in a pleasing way and is something that quite a few brewdog beers fail to achieve!
Sweet dark toffee, caramel and really nice latte notes which are subtle enough so as not to dominate. Velvety texture is sliced through with warm alcohol and then relatively clean grapefruity, hoppy bitterness.
There’s not a great deal of length but all round a pretty interesting barley wine.
