4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
[33cl bottle shared, North Bar - Leeds, 01/01/10] Very complex aroma, with forest fruits, lots of maltiness and perhaps oak. Sweet, spicy taste with a big boozy hit on a par with its abv. Slick/oily mouthfeel. A very interesting beer; a shame this was a limited run.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
What would happen if geniuses meet? Well, something like this, apparently: a partially barrel-aged barley wine with a yellowish head on a misty copper-coloured beer, with a complex, beautifully perfumed aroma of strawberry, cognac, banana, peat, oak, mango and honey and a sweetish caramelly and honeyishly malty taste, some toast, some wood, some smokiness, finishing with bitter but most of all, aromatic hops and warming, brandy-like, but not astringent alcohol. Simply said: Mikkeller and Brewdog collaborating could result in nothing less than a near-masterpiece...

Banana is your first thought followed by some very generous massaging silky quality throughout the taste and body. Some sap leading to the unmistakable dominant banana fritter end.

3.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
330ml bottle courtesy of Craig, never thought I’d get to try this, cheers! Pours opaque brown, no head. Aromas are oxidised sherry and whisky. Taste is more of the same. Astringent booze finish.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle at home, thanks to Kenny! BrewDog #199. Promisingly opens with a soft hiss... It pours deep brown with an orange hue and small tan head. The nose is initially lightly musty (although this dissipates with time), then plum, caramel, prune, date, spice, wood, slight oxidation, marmalade and stewed orange. The taste is raisin, orange peel, kumquat, peach, plum, prune, wood, varnish, earth, resin, nice bitterness, good alcohol kick, peppery notes, with a dry, warming finish. Full body and fine carbonation. Interesting, well rounded and good depth of flavour. Rather nice.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle from Corvallis Brew Supply. 2009 bottling. Aroma is rich, full and roasty. Definitely notes of oak and booze, some Scotch as well. Body is full, dull and heavy. Very boozy, finish round and smooth. Aging was a good call on this one.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Fairly good looking beer, nothing really in terms of head unfortunately. What was there disappeared fast but of course the density of the beer and the alcohol content explain this sufficiently. Nose is a little disappointing for a beer of this complexity - it’s all in the taste really which doesn’t disappoint. It’s multilayered in a pleasing way and is something that quite a few brewdog beers fail to achieve! Sweet dark toffee, caramel and really nice latte notes which are subtle enough so as not to dominate. Velvety texture is sliced through with warm alcohol and then relatively clean grapefruity, hoppy bitterness.
