4.6 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
Appearance: Clear amber/copper with cm thick ivory head which quickly disappeared.
Aroma: Toffee, syrup, woody, vanilla, vinous/spiritous, liquorice, orange peel, peat and musky.
Taste: Medium/high sweetness, low/medium bitterness and low sourness.
Palate: Thick grainy texture, heavy body, low carbonation, lingering sweet, astringent syrup, slightly spicy finish with a kick of alcohol warmth.
Comments: Lovely, if it wasn’t the afternoon it would be the perfect night cap! So much going on in the taste and aroma, one minute its a triple, then its a strong IPA and then an aged beer.

4.5 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Bottle from Mane Liquor Treasure Trove of Phallic Artifacts. Pours golden brown with no head and heavy khaki lacing. Big aroma of caramel, maple syrup, brown sugar and cherries. Lots of dark malts and oaky vanilla. Flavours are immaculate - lots of maple syrup, brown sugar, cherries, raisins, coconut. Great chewy mouthfeel. The beer is sweet but well balanced. Almost like a mix of a barleywine, strong ale and a scotch ale.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Another old rating I’ve just found. 33cl bottle from Appellation Wines.
Appearance - dark amber so the oaking presumably has darkened it a little. Not much head.
Nose - pine and citrus probably oranges. Not a huge amount of evidence of Belgian yeast in there. Not sure what I was expecting.
Taste - mire of the same. I expected some sweeter notes.
Palate - medium to full bodied with a tangy texture and a fairly balanced finish.
Overall - interesting though perhaps a few months will help it to knit together better.
