COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
keg and bottled, special
An epic fusion of age old Belgian tradition, American new wave brewing and the world of Scotch whisky.
Mix Tape 8 is a blend of two huge oak aged beers – half a hopped up Belgian Tripel, and half a Triple India Pale Ale. These beers have both been aged in single grain whisky barrels for close to two years and finally blended to create a beer that our head brewer Stewart Bowman can most helpfully describe as ‘fucking complex’.
Mix Tape 8 is a high octane blend of styles, influences and processes. This beer is a blend of 2 huge oak aged India Pale Ales. Half of this beer is rooted in an amped up, hopped up Belgian Tripel which has been aged in Scotch Whisky casks for almost 2 years. The other half of the equation is a triple India Pale Ale which has also been aged in Scotch Whisky barrels for close to 2 years. This beer is inspired by the Belgian Monastic brewing tradition and its centuries of heritage, the hopped up American new wave craft brewing and everything that rocks about Scotch Whisky barrels and oak aging.

Dark hazy chestnut with beige head collapsing to a lacing. Rich toffee and resinous pine nose. Full bodied, smooth, light carbonation. Vanilla oaky butterscotch sweetness tempered by rich resinous hops and red berries. Quite sweet with a touch of woody astringency. A dessert sipper and not much needed.

Bottle, shared with a friend. Pours: an ever-fascinating satin copper color, head is fizzy and fast dissolving. Aroma: an immediate hop assault, the usual Brewdog’s blast of tropic fruit notes, with some citric and piney backdrop. But unlike their IPA propositions, this one also delivers very prominent aromas of honey and molasses. Superb aroma. Taste: It could have been great....I mean, there are hints of true grandeur here: there’s a classic double IPA in here: refreshing and hoppy.. And then there’s a backdrop of a beautiful Belgian triple - with hints of preserved fruits, honey and burnt sugar. But, why the hell it has to be so sweet. And i mean sweet. Cloying. Syrupy. Sticky. That-fucking-close-to-giving-you-diabetes beer. Brewdog and their sugar overkill. It happens way too often. Such a fantastic concept and such a missed opportunity.

Pours clear, copper in colour, with minimal white foam, which however nicely laces. Caramel, toffi, very light citrus, and a little bit of exotic fruits in aroma. Extremely sweet in taste, little alcohol. Hint of toffi and caramel. Full body, very liquor like, thick feel, sticky. Soft carbonation, long finish. Quite good, but not as good as expected

33 cl bottle.
Pours clear dark mahogany color with a small head. Aroma has lots of sweet ripe fruits and caramel, some malts, toffee and sugary notes also, alcohol comes through as well. Flavor is also extremely sweet with caramel and ripe fruits, some sugar, malts, nutty notes and faint wood. Sticky sweet palate, lingering caramel finish. Way too sweet, but manages to keep the alcohol at bay on some level.

Bottle at BrewDog Stockholm, November 2013. Amber with a small head. A lot of malt in this one with interesting undertones of hops. Also dried fruit, wood and some notes of hay. The body was full and the mouthfeel oily. The finish was long and with warming alcohol. A beer to sip in peace.

33 cl bottle @ William K Kurvi.
Aroma has alcohol, lots of raisins, some glue and sweet, heavy malt typical to American strong ales. Flavour has alcohol, woody notes, fruity and heavy malt, some caramel and toffee. Boozy but warming. Tastes like a typical American strong ale, the scotch is well hidden.

(Bottle, 0.33 l, at William K Kurvi, 20131109) The beer poured deep mahogany coloured and clear. Its head was small and white. Aroma had vanilla, wood, malts and sweetness. Palate was full bodied and warming with medium carbonation. Flavours were wood, vanilla, malts, sweetness, fruitiness and bitterness. Aftertaste was malty, boozy and bitter. An interesting brew but not really a good one.

33cl, no details found on the bottle (see fancy box), new exclusive Scottish brew Anno 2013, from Geers Oostakker, very complex brew, sweet/woody and slightly alcoholic/fruity, yet not to heavy, balanced, clear, small head, very good and original brew, yet very expensive!, WOW!

33cl. Bottle. Pours amber red brown almost syrupy like, with a small white head. The head disappears quickly leaving a thin layer of bubbles. Aroma when opening the bottle and pouring the whisky and alcohol are the first things that hit the nose. Also fruit, cherry, grape, apricot, berries, raisins, vanilla, caramel, toffee en bit earthy wood. So much is going on. Taste starts with a smooth caramel, vanilla sweetness followed by the fruits. A tinteling lovely bitter at the end with a warming feel of alcohol. All of the elements in the aroma come back in the taste. Mouth-feel on this one is excellent! thick silky with a tiny sparkle on the tongue. Amazing beer, a complex nose and everything coming back in the taste. The mouth-feel is awesome.

Bright clear red - amber beer. Decent cream coloured head. Palate is smooth and soft and a little dry. Modest super fine carbonation. Sweet malt with thin cream. Mild vanilla. Mellow cherry liqueur segues to mellow fruity bourbon and a touch of Port WIne. Mild spice. Touch of generic fruits before a neutral finish. Light bitterness and spice in the aftertaste. Pretty drinkable and very tasty!
