COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
keg and bottled, special
An epic fusion of age old Belgian tradition, American new wave brewing and the world of Scotch whisky.
Mix Tape 8 is a blend of two huge oak aged beers – half a hopped up Belgian Tripel, and half a Triple India Pale Ale. These beers have both been aged in single grain whisky barrels for close to two years and finally blended to create a beer that our head brewer Stewart Bowman can most helpfully describe as ‘fucking complex’.
Mix Tape 8 is a high octane blend of styles, influences and processes. This beer is a blend of 2 huge oak aged India Pale Ales. Half of this beer is rooted in an amped up, hopped up Belgian Tripel which has been aged in Scotch Whisky casks for almost 2 years. The other half of the equation is a triple India Pale Ale which has also been aged in Scotch Whisky barrels for close to 2 years. This beer is inspired by the Belgian Monastic brewing tradition and its centuries of heritage, the hopped up American new wave craft brewing and everything that rocks about Scotch Whisky barrels and oak aging.

Bottled. An amber beer with a beige head. The aroma has notes of alcohol, straw, and malt. The flavor is sweet with notes of alcohol, over ripe fruits, straw, and hops, leading to a bitter finish.

Pours clear dark amber with low yellowish white head. Aroma of butterscotch, caramel, oak barrel, light citrus. Taste is very sweet, oaky, hazelnuts, caramel and butterscotch with a light boozy bitterness in the finish. Body is thick and creamy with soft carbonation. Very alcohol warming. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Appearance: Clear amber/copper with cm thick ivory head which quickly disappeared. Aroma: Toffee, syrup, woody, vanilla, vinous/spiritous, liquorice, orange peel, peat and musky. Taste: Medium/high sweetness, low/medium bitterness and low sourness. Palate: Thick grainy texture, heavy body, low carbonation, lingering sweet, astringent syrup, slightly spicy finish with a kick of alcohol warmth. Comments: Lovely, if it wasn’t the afternoon it would be the perfect night cap! So much going on in the taste and aroma, one minute its a triple, then its a strong IPA and then an aged beer.

Bottle from Mane Liquor Treasure Trove of Phallic Artifacts. Pours golden brown with no head and heavy khaki lacing. Big aroma of caramel, maple syrup, brown sugar and cherries. Lots of dark malts and oaky vanilla. Flavours are immaculate - lots of maple syrup, brown sugar, cherries, raisins, coconut. Great chewy mouthfeel. The beer is sweet but well balanced. Almost like a mix of a barleywine, strong ale and a scotch ale.

Another old rating I’ve just found. 33cl bottle from Appellation Wines. Appearance - dark amber so the oaking presumably has darkened it a little. Not much head. Nose - pine and citrus probably oranges. Not a huge amount of evidence of Belgian yeast in there. Not sure what I was expecting. Taste - mire of the same. I expected some sweeter notes. Palate - medium to full bodied with a tangy texture and a fairly balanced finish. Overall - interesting though perhaps a few months will help it to knit together better.

330ml bottle, pours hazy copper brown with little head or carbonation. Sticky in the mouth, main aromas coming through are the malt barrel, cararmel malt. juicy fruit hop, toffee-apple, mild spice, prune, biberry.. This is a unique beer, very moreish and drinkable. Alcohol very well hidden. A nice slow sipper. Body is light for the abv, carbonation low, finish is dry and short and caramel. Excellent.

Helt underbar, näst intill perfekt! Stor maltighet i början en härlig välbalanserad bäska. Definitivt en av de bästa ölen jag druckit.
