And this time it is all about the beer, and the beer is awesome! Gone are the 200+ IBUs which brought grown men to tears! Our new Nanny State is 0.5% ABV and focuses on being a great drink as opposed to a great publicity ploy. This beer is now focussed on getting all that is good about BrewDog into a practically alcohol free format. It is a West Coast inspired pale ale with a difference!

The beer has 45 IBUS and is brewed with centennial, amarillo, columbus, cascade and simcoe and intensively dry-hopped with centennial and amarillo. The backbone is provided by 8 different types of speciality malts with only 87 kilos of malt used in a 20HL batch (our Punk IPA uses 450 kilos in 20HL).

Bottled 330ml. -from Pivoteka Zagreb. Dark golden coloured, small to medium sized off-white head, citrusy nose. Sweetish malty, citrusy hoppy, weak notes of caramel and bitter hoppy finish. Not bad at all for n/a beer.

From 0,33l bottle, BBD: 11/06/16 Pours clear amber to light brown liquid, medium frothy tan head, Aroma: heavily hopped, citrus, orange, lemon, lemon grass, resin, Taste: light sweet, medium bitter, light to medium sour, caramel, citrus, lemon grass, resin, watery, Palate: light watery body, slick texture, average carbonation, long citrus resin finish, Overall: not so bad, appearance and aroma is fine, the taste is at the beginning ok, than you realize the watery profile. For a nonalcoholic beer pretty good, otherwise not so.

15cl sample at the Ghent Beer Festival VI (22 VIII 2015). Bright amber, orange beer with a massive, hoppy nose. Almost unbelievable. Make this a low alcohol IPA. These fruity aromas are quite surprising and promising. Yet, the taste does not meet up with the great expectations. This is beer for diabetics, to state it bold, with no sweetness at all. Even worse: I can’t even notice clear malts or grains. A pitty. This does not really taste like beer and the watery notes are too present.

Quite surprised this is a low alcohol beer, will get more! Hopy aroma and quite nice bitter taste, it tastes like an IPA all over. Great discovery at ABC Beer shop. (Velp 201508)

Average off-white head with low retention. Reddish amber colour. Aroma is hoppy, floral and citrus. Taste is bitter and dry. Watery palate and light body. Good to be alcohol free.

Backlog from old tastenotes: Aroma is very fruity and hoppy. Taste is low malt with some citrus and grapefruit hoppiness, but it gets kind of "hollow". I guess this is the best you can do at this abv-rate? Nothing I would buy again, but if I’m somewhere and really need to drive or something, I would grab one without hesitation.

Taste this as the first beer on sat. 22.08.’15 from bottle 33 cl. @ 6edition of Gents Bier Festival. Almost clear amber-orange color, with white head. Aroma: nice exotic fruits (mango, peach..) from hops. Light tot medium body. Taste: softsweet, very fruits, good hoppy and bitter. Long bitter finish. Surprise what a taste for the low alcohol style.

At 0.5% ABV you’ve got to have pretty realistic expectations re taste. And they’re easily met. Yes, it’s light and watery and notably lacking sweetness and thickness from the malt. But it’s get a great nose - plenty of exotic fruit and citrus. I’m a big fan. for those times when you feel like a beer to quench the thirst but don;t need the alcohol.
