This is Never Mind the Anabolics. A 6.5% India Pale Ale infused with creatine, guarana, ginseng, gingo, steroids, maca powder, matcha tea and kola nut. It is about time the greatest sporting event on the planet was not sponsored by fast food companies, sugary fizzy drinks producers or monolithic multi-national brewers. A burger, can of fizzy pop and an industrial lager are not the most ideal preparation for the steeple chase or the dressage (for human or horse). So we decided to give the athletes something that was going to make them happier and better. A way to relax before a big event and at the same time increase the chances of winning. This summer, revive the spirit of the peopleís Games from the comfort of your favourite bar. Never Mind the Anabolics takes its lead from the relentless marketing campaigns of global fast food chains and international mass production breweries that replace the sporting spirit with a fast buck, a greasy burger and an ugly plastic cup of insipid, fizzy, yellow lager. Dedication, training and passion are things of the past; Kick back, put your giant torch down and let our performance enhancing ingredients do the hard work. Itís not the taking part, itís the winning that counts

Pours a rather clear, dark golden with an inch of offwhite head. Intense bubblegum-ish aroma, mixed with some hints of spice and grass. Taste is weird, kinda medicinal at first, then finished with a bitter and somewhat dry aftertaste. Body is close to light and carbonation is medium+

Bottle from BrewDog, Newcastle on 27 July 2013. Purchased by my cousin some months before, as I hadnít tried it. Unfortunately it was a little past its best and had lost most of the hop notes. Poured a hazy orange with a thin, off white head. Aroma of muted hops, some spice and orange rind. Strong butterscotch flavours with a little of the lingering hop resin bitterness.

Bottle, best before 25-07-2013. Dark ruby with a white medium head. Aroma is like a Dipa, sweet caramel malts with a fruity hoppy feel. Clearly the hops have faded away now and the caramel malts is the thing now. Some floral hops and glueish smell there too. Mouthfeel is a bit oily, carbonation medium. Bitterness is moderate and rather long. It's still pretty ok, just lacking some punch and the fresh hops. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle (33cl). Inch-thick soft offwhite head, very good retention, settles as a thick film with some lacing. Nice blood orange colour, slightly hazy. Complex, dusty, hoppy aroma, with herbs, caramel, cookies, grapefruit, bitter orange, pineapple. Medium body, soft carbonation. Taste is a little bit disappointing compared with the nose, but is well-balanced, salty-sweet, leaning towards acidic in the finish. Solid, yet mild bitterness.

It is an interesting beer, with a light distinced brewdog hoppy flavour. The beer has light bitter taste, with tastes of some of the infused flavours. The downside is that is make the beer flat, and a bit thin. The aftertaste is light bitter and not very long. A strange beer, not really worth the money. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle from Kris Wines. Pours clear amber with a small off white head which quickly disappears. Nose is sweet malts with some vibrant fruits behind a touch of shortbread. Kind of buttery. Same butter like note in the taste with some sweet citric fruits and pine. All very easy going and balanced. Solid but nothing to set it apart

Amber colored pour. Small off-white head with a little bit of lacing. Slight hoppy aroma with some semblance of malt behind it. Taste is a malty backbone with a bit of hoppiness and a slight carbonic bite. Well a big carbonic bit. There is something else in there that I canít quite place, but it is not horrible. Not bad.
