3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
No real head, and what little there is quickly disappears
completely. Opaque black body. Deep chocolatey earthy aroma
with malty toffee and raisin notes as well as traces of vanilla
fudge. Wonderfully harmonic. Dry-sweet chocolatey licorice and
vanilla fudge taste with herbal mineraly notes. Full-bodied.
Faintly sharpish mouthfeel is also smooth, with some heat.
Dryish herbal mineraly chocolate aftertaste with raisiny malty
toffee and vanilla fudge sweetness. Very, very nice. Scarily
drinkable, harmonic, and full of flavour. (0.33l bottle, wine
monopoly, Vika *and* Kihoskh, Copenhagen.)

3.6 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle, Beer Ritz, Leeds. Drunk on the Liverpool-Dublin ferry. Black as night with a wee dissipating brown head. The aroma was probably the best thing about this beer, and was loaded with dark fruit, brown sugar, chocolate and booze. Super sweet, slightly cloying taste containing all of the above, with notes of coffee and a big warming alco-hit.. Didn’t totally dig this one though....some quality there, but disappointing overall and in no way as good as any of the 3 beers its based on.

Pours black with deep orange, thick lacings. Head disappeared immediately. What is strange about the carbonation is that you can hear it "sizzle" but you can’t see it, when rolling around it the mouth, there is clear carbonation. Nose: coffee, roast, cacao, some leather, earthiness. Taste: Incredible sweet coffee taste. Bitterness makes me think of orange peel. Vanilla. Finish is extremely dry. Interesting beer.

Pitch black, small head. Chocolate, coffee and smoked aroma. The taste of the Mikkeller Black comes through strongly. Very sticky sweet aftertaste but great combination of flavours.

3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle shared by Jaksmart - thanks! Pours pitch black with only a small amount of brown head - after a minute, the head is gone. Aroma is full of chocolate, dark fruits, dark sugar, dates, prunes, tarmac, sweet port, very sweet chocolate, alcohol, charcoal. Interesting aroma, it works well. The taste is immensely sweet, sweet chocolate, alcohol burn en masse, coffee, dark fruits, burnt caramel, lots of residual sugars, slightly ashy and bitter, but mainly very sweet and cloying. The carbonation of very light. I think this brew is inferior to all of the three original beers.

29/11/2011 33cl bottle @ Klaas’ place - BB: 20/7/2021 (2011-686) Thanks to Klaas for sharing the bottle!
Dark brown to black beer, small beige head, unstable, dissipates while it’s forming. Aroma: wood, bit of soy sauce, dark chocolate, coffee, peat, some dried fruits, alcohol (no shit, I’m even surprised they were able to keep it so subtle). MF: light carbon, full body. Taste: very sweet alcoholic start, coffee bitter, soy sauce, brown sugar, dried fruits, bit of vanilla. Aftertaste: coffee bitter, soy sauce, alcohol and hot peppers.

Very dark brown, like black at the glass. Malts, coffee, roastiness, hops. I know I love sweetness, but this is a bit to much I think. Drop down the sugar a bit, that should do the trick I think.

Pitch black pour, unsurprisingly. Wet oak, cherry, bourbon, chocolate, liquorice, alcohol, nail polish and quite a bit of port wine. Oily body. Didn’t like Brewdog’s Tokyo much at all (found it to be syrupy, sticky, high alcohol for its own sake) so I was surprised to enjoy this one quite a bit.
