4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
A thick, tarry stout with strong sweet flavours of dried fruit, vanilla and chocolate. Remarkably smooth given the ABV. The fruity taste of tokyo* comes though (I haven’t tried dark horizon or black yet). From BrewDog I still prefer the slightly lighter by chocolatier Dog A/Dog B.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle split at JF’s, from BD online, 17/08/13 @15.2% ABV.
Light black with a good sized tan head that clears to the edge and a swirl.
Nose is boozey, dark roast malt, bitter chocolate, muscavado sugars, dark fruits, stewed dates and raisens, tar.
Taste comprises dark roast malt, tar, leather, raisens, bitter chocolate, molasses, sweet sugars, dark fruits.
Full bodied, fine carbonation, warming alcohol, a little cloying but on the whole eminently drinkable for the high ABV.

4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
UPDATED: AUG 20, 2013 Pours reddish black with fizzy tan head that reduces quickly to a thin ring. Huge liquorice sweetness, molasses, smaller coffee and vanilla with a boozy sting to twinge the nostrils. Much the same on the sip but also with raisin and prune. Strong liquorice sweetness and bitter coffee later. Warm boozy finish with bitterness subsiding to leave the sweet. Heavy body, thick. This is huge, might get better with age.

3.7 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20
Offered a snifter by a friend. Exceptional beverage. When compared to other stouts - this one stands on his own. Alcohol is hidden, and all you can taste is a variety of malts: coffee, caramel, nuts - all is there. If you have a chance to try this brew - do not miss it.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Nice aroma, and a dark black pour, medium body. Quite a salty bitter edge to it which detracts from the rest of the beer.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Appearance: Dark brown/black with a thin quickly disappearing tan head.
Aroma: Fruit cake, liquorice, bready/biscuity notes, spiritous/vinous and grassy.
Taste: Medium/high sweetness, medium bitterness, low sourness, liquorice, roast notes, treacle with a developing bitterness. Alcohol warmth evident.
Palate: Thick texture, mouthfeel and body. Low carbonation, alcohol warmth is evident throughout , its quite astringent with a long malty bitter finish.
Comments: This one was the 15.2% ABV version, the alcohol strength was certainly not evident it was well masked by the other elements of this beer. A very tasty and decadent brew. No glass lace.
