Bottle bought from brewdog, com. I am a big fan of Tokyo and I recently had Dark Horizon of tap and it was stunning. This is a great collaboration beer. You can really taste the seperate parts working together. Not too sweet (which was a worry) and bursting with dark flavours. My only quibble is it seemed a bit thin on the palate. With age I think this will probably be something very special

On keg at the BrewDog bar. Pours a black colour with thin, tan lacing around the rim of the glass. I prefer this to the Tokyo for a start, not too sweet. Aroma of Ovaltine, Weetabix, dark chocolate, caramel and chocolate malt. Flavour still quite sweet with caramel, roasty malt and Ovaltine again. Foamy mouth-feel with a light CO2 prickle. Light carbonation and a long sweet chocolately linger.

Tap at brewdog. Black with little tan head. Aroma is massive, licorice and big alcohol waft. Beer is thick, like knife and fork thick, very sticky. Taste is big licorice note with some coffee and chocolate. Pretty good, but deffinately a dessert beer.

33cl bottle. Pours opaque black with a very tiny head. The nose is a massive attack of liquorice. The taste has liquorice again and not much else, but the note is massive. The palate is huge in structure, it has the texture of crude oil and although it is difficult for 17.2% beer to clean, there does seem to be a relative falling off at the end, but it’s very long. Overall, I like this a lot.

330ml bottle. Pours a very dark brown with no head at all. Aroma is dark chocolate, burnt coffee and alcohol. Some sour dark fruits, too. Taste has dark chocolate and spicy dark fruits to start. bitter, dark fruity finish. Alcohol burn on the aftertaste. Very oily.

Bottled 330ml (alc. 17.2 %, Beer Hunters, batch 057, BB 07/2021)
Deep opaque black color, no head. Interesting perfumic aroma of dark malts, rye, licorice and dark fruits. Full-bodied, liquerish palate. Quite sweet, molasses, licorice, caramel .. a bit like a sweet version of DH I. Needs ageing.

Sample at the Brewdog Burns Night dinner at the White Horse, Parsons Green, 25th Jan 2011. Black with small cream head. Nose of gouda and raspberry ripple ice cream! Lots of alcohol too as you might expect. Very sweet, very smooth. Really nice, goes from bilberry to coffee via an exquisite dark chocolate. A beer that you start tasting four inches from your mouth as you raise the glass! A wonderful accompaniment to a sweet dessert.

UPDATED: AUG 9, 2011 Re-rate at the Rake, now at 17.2% (July 2011). It pours opaque black, with a dark tan head. The nose is soy sauce, toasted sesame seed, charcoal, sweet caramel, toffee, coffee and bitter chocolate. The taste is sweet! Dark chocolate, plum, dark cherry, brown sugar, milk chocolate, coffee and alcohol warmth, with a sweet, warming finish. Moderate carbonation and full body. Better balance and smoother than the younger version I had at the White Horse in January at 16%. Much better! Sweet and indulgent.

Opaque dark black - brown beer with a small chocolate coloured head. Nose of coffee, chocolate, a little marmite and fruit. Light semi dry palate. Sweet fruit - red fruits. Chocolate, coffee, licorice - aniseed. Finishes with a light touch of alcohol and more vibrant red fruits. Sumptuos, intense, ruinous! Best thing from Brewdog for a while.
