2011 bottle. Thanks GothGargoyle! Pours a dense brown. Aroma of licorice, raisin, sweet coffee. Taste is super sweet, with a chase of bitterness. Extremely creamy, and sustained dry finish that is nicely balanced. 2013 bottle. More brown sugar, raw toffee aroma. The newer carbonation leads to a more bitter taste and abrupt dry finish.

Bottle from Bottledog, King’s Cross. Pours inky black with a rapidly disppearing chocolate head. Incredibly rich and intenses flavours of chocolate, coffee, liquorice, vanilla, spice and warming booze. Starts sweet and finishes bitter. Full oily mouthfeel. A delicious sipper.

15.2% bottle from Rehills, Newcastle. This jet-black beer pours with a thin creamy tan head. It has an initial super-powerful chocolate and liquorice flavour with roasted coffee, currants and cherries followed by smoked beech, leather and a creamy, fruity, powerfully warming bitter chocolate finish. Superb!

Bottle from cellar, first batch. Pours a thick pitch black liquid with a deep brown head that fizzes away pretty quick. Aroma is complex with lots of dark fruits, dark chocolate, booze, wood, little soy, smooth, sweet. Smells good! Taste: soooo rich, very complex profile. Sweet with a well hidden alcohol for its %. Hints of raisins, chocolate, soy, figs, vanilla. Really good stuff and has held up well since I had it some years ago.

12 ounce bottle thanks to Christian. Pours a pitch black color, very viscous, a wonderful large brown head that quickly dissipates. The aroma is predictable huge for the ABV with smoke, molasses, dark fruit and sugars. The flavor is intense: sugary malts, coconut, oily, a bit of mango, huge coffee and vanilla. The super over the top sweetness is mixed with smoke and more tropical sticky elements. Quite good. Cranberries and mango mixed in tobacco and leather. Hmm, sounds like a metal band or a gay bar name. Anyway, it’s good. The heat and intensity is rough, so maybe a bomber would be a bit much. Maybe.
