Clear golden pour from a bottle.aroma is grainy malts and burnt toast. Taste was grainy with a bitter finish. Meh

This is one of the better IPAs I have had lately. Looks more like a Scotch ale than an IPA. Aroma is malty and earthy. Medium head. Hop bitterness is perfect. Malty sweet like an Imperial IPA, though. Grainy and substantial. Chewy and thick. Carbonation is medium and cuts the sweetness on the tongue. A fascinating beer and one that I thoroughly enjoyed.

Appearance was clear amber copper with creamy off white diminishing 1 finger head, no lacing. Aromas was sweet caramel malts with figs and herbal slight hops. Taste was sweet caramel, choco malts upfronts then mild piney herbal soft spicy hops. Palate was smooth creamy carbonation with medium body long mild caulky hop finish.

Bottle. The pour was a clear medium copper with a large (2-3 finger) light tan frothy head that lasted for decent time before receding to a thin cap, which allowed for some fair spotty lacing. The aroma was a little sweet with a toasted biscuit malt, floral hops and a light doughy yeast and had notes of caramel, citrus (orange peel) and a mild apricot sweetness. The taste was bittersweet with a mild jolt of caramel early on and then progressed into a much bitterer taste with a mild dose of hops, citrus and had a slight alcohol presence. The flavor lasted a good long time letting the bittersweet hoppiness settle nicely on the taste buds. Mouthfeel was in between light and medium in body with a dry oily texture and a mild carbonation. Overall a very refreshing and flavorful IPA, although as IPA’s go this one was not typical. But as it says on the bottle” Recipe from a bygone era" when hops were used as preservatives in shipping beer far distances...

Bottle:   Deeper shade of amber, moderate frothy off-white head, spotty lacing.   RInd, sweet citrus peel, biscuity hops on the nose.   Sweet rind and slight candied citrus peel on the tongue, hoppy but not bitter.   A little bit of a bitter or biscuit malt like base.   Body and mouthfeel are moderate to full.   Seems pretty smooth, slightly prickly on the tongue.   Lingering semi-sweet citrusy hop goodness.   I like this in that its not biting, but has that hop edge thats clean and juicy.   Nice work!   Thanks Jason!

Appearance: deep ambers and coppers under a thin yet tightly packed coppery head which fades into a thin blanket with a bubbly collar. Swirls with bubbly clumps that linger off-kilter.
Nose: oranges – juicy, then the rind – then pine in the background with a sprinkling of nutmeg. Sticky hop resins and pine resins. Rustic. Toasted wheat and whole grains breads. Sunflower seeds. Whole dried hop leaves. A bit vegetal along the edges – green cucumber.
Palate: a light medium-weight carries the bitterness through and through, parching the palate and generating thirst. Apples, peaches, and bark – rustic orchards at the peak of the harvest. Orange oils and grapefruit oils in the back. Apple skins bitter and sweet. Sticky pine and hop resins make the lips smack and holds everything together. More sweetness underneath of orange, pine, and hop oils/resins.
Final Thoughts: love the label art. Love it. Good thing I love the beer too cause it’s hard to buy a beer twice just for the beer label. Typical BrewDog style both in flavor and in design. Those punks in Aberdeenshire, Scotland sure no how to quench this beer geeks thirst.

Bottle pours amber with a light tan head. Aromas are sweet with toffee overtones. Tastes are caramel, coffee and toffee. Rich malts in this one. There is some lingering bitterness from the hops, but the malts are the star of this beer. Overall, an interesting and tasty beer. Not an American IPA by any stretch.

Cloudy dark orange body with an average sized, sticky off-white head. Earthy British hop aroma. The flavor is a decent balance of nutty malt sweetness and earthy hop bitterness.

750ml bottle pours a clear, caramel orange with some spitty white head. Nose is oranges, earthy, caramel, dirt, a little wet dog. Sweet, caramel flavor, earthy, wet tobacco leaves, brown sugar, orange. Full bodied, sweet finish.

Very hazy deep copper coloured body with a muddy brown tint and a nice, four centimetre tall rich tan head - nice. Aroma of nutty malt, earthy english hops and a bunch of roasted sugars. Medium-bodied; Assertive earthy and muddled english hops with a good toasted malt flavour, some sugars at the tail end and an overall earthy finish. Aftertaste borders between earthy and caramel flavours with some hop bitterness at the end - a nice, relatively accurate (from my understanding) old style ipa. Worth trying and much cheaper than the Atlantic IPA which was fairly similar to this. I sampled this 65 cL bottle purchased from Total Wine in Manassas, Virginia on 19-January-2012 for US$5.99 sampled at home in Washington on 28-March-2012 as Batch 448, best before 07-01-13.

hazy red copper, thinnest white ring. Nose is lightest diacetyl, brown sugar, water chestnut. flavor stings with burnt sugar, light orange, bit of cardboard, thin and sticky with a watery finish. Light caramel sugar.
