Rich aroma is oily, smoky, strongly of molasses with a firm undertone of fine mocha. It pours a dark chocolate brown with a thick grayish tan and none too persistent head. Flavor is mainly of molasses with an overtone of fine roast coffee and more than a hint of chocolate and toffee. The taste fairly fills the mouth - just a sip delights the entire tongue. Texture is slick, thick and a little tingly. Recommended to all "Stouties."

Poured from a 12oz. bottle into a tulip glass. The color is a dark and opaque black with some light brown foam and so nice lacing. The smell is just a tiny bit teasing. Some toffee and burnt malt feel. The darker of the malt feel on this one. The taste is quite a bit coffee flavored. Some nice toffee and peanut brittle flavor. A burnt feel to the flavor has been thinking of imperial stouts. It does gives a very conditioned, and flavor filled taste to this beer. Quite good and quite surprising from a brewery that seemed as they were just filled with gimmicks. The feel of this beer is a bit tart but creamy. Sliding through the mouth it just tweaks the pretty twisted side in your taste buds and brings out a smile. I was impressed.

Bottle: pours black with a small head. Aroma of plum wine, prunes, caramel, coffee with a vinous type aroma. Very nice, smotth stout with a strong and flavorful malt taste that lingers with some coffee notes. Undertones of dark fruit such as plum and prunes come out in the taste. Alcohol is not noticeable. This is so tasty.

Pours black with a ring of brown bubbles. Let it sit until it nears room temperature. I enjoyed the base, Riptide Stout, in the meantime. Aroma is heavy with Speyside malt, salt, peat, coffee, dark chocolate, wood, leather, and smoked malt. The taste is incredible. The bitter, roasty, smoky, coffee and chocolate flavors are all there, but now with the peat and alcohol from the scotch. It all swirls in your mouth. As it gets warmer, tobacco, oak, earthy oats, and vanilla pop up from time to time. Took a while to sip, but I liked it that way. Worth every penny.

Pours black with a nice thin layer of head that fades faster than super man can jump over a building. WOW there is some seriously huge chocolate, coffee and caramel. You can taste the sweetness of the chocolate but it is overshadowed by the flavor from the barrel. Damn good, damn good! There is little carbonation but that is fine it is smooth and very easy to drink. Drink it up while it’s here. Could be gone in a matter of minutes.

Bottle. Poured a deep black into a snifter with a small brown head. Aroma of scotch, bitter chocolate and roasted malt. Flavor of scotch whiskey and coffee. A little warming alcohol on the end. Even some fruity notes in the middle. Low carbonation and full bodied. Good.

Tasting - Perfect Pour. Deep blackish brown, thick dark tan head. Intense bitter roasted chocolate and coffee oak aromas are well layered over notes of dark berry and coconut. Whiskey and black coffee flavors upfront balance well on woody coconut and chocolate berry tones. Nice late bitter hop component pull this together very well. Medium bodied with soft carbonation. A great sipper...

Opaque black pour with a thin off-white head. Complex aroma, well balanced, whiskey (bourbon but it says Scotch) sweet fruits, dark roast malt and some vanilla, cherry and chocolate. The flavors are well blended and perfectly balanced with all of them coming through and none over powering any of the others. Thick and viscous mouth feel. Very nice whiskey stout.

A whisky drinker’s beer and one of the best of the Paradoxes to cross this gullet. I expected a Glen Grant headbutt and was pleasantly surprised. This is seductively easing drinking. Terrific appearance: thick head showing good length and big lace. Surprisingly soft aroma for this style - oaky memories of your granddad’s armchair, attic dust, empty whisky bottles and Milo chocolate drinks. Superb silken mouthfeel. Soft caffe latte and vanilla notes through the front of the palate. Much more refined than some of its brothers in the Paradox family. Sweet brown sugar and a terrific alcoholic bite as it glazes the throat. Lovely stuff. (BB 2/2/20)

12oz bottle, best by 12/12/09. Pours deep brown, capped with a thin khaki head. Beautiful aroma, with vanilla, dark fruit, chocolate, and scotch. Flavor is chocolate, coffee, vanilla, butterscotch, dark fruit, scotch and toffee. Coffee and vanilla finish, with some scotch highlights. Excellent beer; my favorite Paradox thus far.
