Tried this in a long string of dark beers, but it was an easy drinker for 10%. Not sure the price I paid was worth it, but I would like to try it again on it’s own. Rich and smooth.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Drank from the bottle. Aroma of soy sauce and black molasses with chocolate and coffee as an afterthought. Light and watery on the palate with soy sauce, mild cocoa, and light roast coffee. Aged in a 1970 Glen Grant cask? Sounds impressive but there’s not much bourbon flavor to speak of. Maybe I’m ruined after three BCBS cherry rye tonight. It’s ok but simply mediocre.

Bottle. Very dark pour with minimal head. Chocolate, lactose, and whiskey really come out in this one. Some mild oak elements.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Botted sample via and shared with oakbluff. Dark brown in colour with fairly low carbonation. Aromas are of faint milk chocolate, mild whisky, and mellow pale malts. Smooth and light bodied in the mouth, with some rounder oak barrel elements mixing with the light coffee and chocolate notes. A bit on the stale side, but the scotch character has blended nicely.

4.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
A whisky drinker’s beer and one of the best of the Paradoxes to cross this gullet. I expected a Glen Grant headbutt and was pleasantly surprised. This is seductively easing drinking. Terrific appearance: thick head showing good length and big lace. Surprisingly soft aroma for this style - oaky memories of your granddad’s armchair, attic dust, empty whisky bottles and Milo chocolate drinks. Superb silken mouthfeel. Soft caffe latte and vanilla notes through the front of the palate. Much more refined than some of its brothers in the Paradox family. Sweet brown sugar and a terrific alcoholic bite as it glazes the throat. Lovely stuff. (BB 2/2/20)
