Pours a dark brown with a thin beige head. The aroma is very sweet, like a sherry barrel aged whiskey. The nose also brings a nice roasty, toasted oak note. The flavor is sweet and fruity. Nourbon, sherry, almonds, chocolate and coffee on the palate. Quite nice

In bottle at Craig’s BrewDog tasting. Pours a dark brown colour with a thin light tan head. A big whiskey aroma with a little iodine, honey, vanilla, roasty malt, dark chocolate and caramel. Similar flavours with very prominent vanilla. Mild carbonation and an oily mouth-feel. Superb!

Opaque black stout. Short lived tan head. Soft palate.Smooth rich dark malt, not dry or bitter. Minerals in the light whisky. Found this similar to batch 002 but lighter and minus the mild vanilla wood. Minerally finish with a little aniseed.

330ml bottle pours black in color with a small beige head that leaves little lacing on the glass. Aroma is peaty smoke with roasted barley and hints of whiskey and alcohol. Taste is peaty smoke with roasted grain bitterness and some malty sweetness and a mild hop bitterness. Medium to heavy body with light carbonation. A tasty imperial stout.

Bottle @ Joes, thnx for sharing. Note: Best Before 31-12-2008. Very dark brown, almost black but a slight deep dark red, almost purple glow coming through. Small lacing, no head. Smell whisky, wine, wood. Taste wood. Low carbo (probably due to the ’long overdate’), smooth texture, low to medium body.

In short: Thick oily bourbon barrels juice and slightly smoked peat
How: Bottle 12oz. Consumed when probably about 2 years of age. Sent to me by Vertical Bacon Strip, thanks Jeff
The look: Black body with a few big bubbles acting as a head (despite a violent pour)
In long: The not-so-intense nose is mostly bourbon barrels and peat notes. Taste is bourbon barrels juice, smoked peat soaked in black coffee and some tar. Alcohol is a bit apparent. This one didn’t have much of the usual vanilla that comes with bourbon barrel aged Imperial Stout. The barrels and smoked peat are so overwhelming that the beer doesn’t feel sweet at all, which is a good thing. Carbonation is too soft and the beer has a motor oil mouthfeel. This was a good beer. And here’s another good paradox: I think you should not agree with me. Do you agree?

Found in my secret ’outside special beer box’ for my David! Sweet silky leather burnt vanilla sugar nose. Darkest brown/blackish colour, no head nor lace. Sickly sweet first flavour, fading into burnt choc biscuit and herbal coal notes. Not mine, but a well and delicately crafted beer.

Bottle from State Line. Pours onyx with tan head. Nose is dark malt, heavy vanilla, whisky, oaky. Tastes of earthy dark malt, heavy vanilla, late heat and cognacy notes, some hops, blackstrap molasses.

Deep dark brown coloured body with a nice sized tan head that fades away nicely. Aroma of roasted malt, coffee, alcohol, whiskey, nuts, pecans, caramel and a bunch of sweet flavours - not overly done and smells pretty nice throughout. Medium to Full-bodied; Pungent robust maltiness with a lot of sugars, some oak, vanilla and bourbon tastes throughout and a long roasted malt and coffee essence on the end. Overall, a nice and rather well-rounded stout - showing well with the age (two years I’ve had it), with a good complexity, but not over profiled tastes. I sampled this in conjunction with the Paradox Islay, and this was far better in my opinion. I sampled this 33 cL bottle purchased from the Utobeer Market Stall in Borough (London), England on 08-March-2008, sampled on the Eastern Shore of Virginia on 28-May-2010. Best Before - 02 December 2008.
