poured brown, settlled very dark brown almost black, thick small light brown head. aroma of wood, whisky, coffee, roasted grains, dark chocolate. aroma is really very very nice, the whiskey notes shine through making the imp much deeper.
flavor is very well blended, notes of licorice, roasted grains, whisky, dark caramel, wood. the 10% alc. percentage is very well hidden. this is very flavorfull and very tasty. faint weird bitterness somewhere in there keeps me from giving it 9 in flavor.
ends dark roasted and slighlty coffe-bean-bitter’ish. boFNjackson (1233), Portland, Oregon, USA Oct 24, 2009 Bottle... Poured black with a thin, light brown head. Noticeable wine-like tones in the aroma, with dark malts. Flavors of cocoa and dark sugars with a smooth malt presence. Alcohol warmth and whisky kick in the finish. topherh (878), Kearney, Missouri, USA Oct 19, 2009 Pours black with a few brown bubbles for a head. Aroma is chocolate, vanilla, a bit of roast malt, and coffee. Flavor starts lightly sweet, vanilla, brown sugar. Then hints of whisky, roast malt, bitterness that lingers, with a slight alcohol burn on the back of the throat. awiseman01 (318), Indianapolis, Indiana, USA Oct 7, 2009 Port Dundas ’66 cask, bottle from Tiffany’s in Kmazoo. Pours flat black. Aroma has some chocolate, roasted malt and a nice barrel aged component. Flavor is smooth and dark, some dark chocolate and dark roast malt/coffee. Very nice whisky undertones yet slightly sour and possibly a bit oxidized. Says best before 2/2/10, glad I got one of these near the end of life as the 10% seems to have calmed a little. Overall very thin and smooth. Not bad at all. StFun (535), Indiana, USA Sep 29, 2009 Fairly nice and complex brew. Pours a deep black with a pencil thin head. Aroma is nice, full of sugar, vanilla, toffee and whiskey. Flavor is much the same, with touches of smoke and brown sugar. Nice! beerchugger (285), Colorado, USA Sep 22, 2009 Updated: Sep 23, 2009Pours a very dark opaque black with almost no head to speak of. The aroma is fantastically complex with smells of sweet sugars and beets that come alongside rich black licorice and fine notes of strong whisky. With the whisky come aromas of deep vanilla and wood giving way to a more earthy peat aroma and a hint of smoke as well. Incredible aroma!! The flavor immediately tastes like a soft whisky giving off flavors of earth and is a bit smokey. There are rich sweet malty flavors of brown sugar and deep fruits as well. Finish is surprisingly easy. Not much carbonation and no lacing on the glass. nramsburg (200), New York, New York, USA Sep 16, 2009 Dark deep brown with a nose highly reminiscent of whisky, no surprise here. The peat comes through.
I really like the deep smokey vanilla caramel, toffee and a hint of nuttiness.
This is a good wine that would go nicely with a good cheddar or perhaps a blue.
