Imperial Stout aged in American Bourbon Barrels for 12 months. A schizophrenic translatlantic son of a bitch of a beer. Huge, decadent imperial stout clashes in the most beautiful way with the best incarnation of the American Dream since Nixon choked on a cheeseburger. We think this might just be the best Paradox ever. Available in both keg and bottle.

Dark and smooth pour, creamy head about 1 cm tall that disappears quite fast. Smells like chocolate, cocoa, dark cherries, dried fruit (raisins) and heavy bourbon. Tastes like dark chocolate, vanilla, heavy malt sugars and has a very nice, though a bit powerful, bourbon feel. Very well balanced, it has a very smooth and thick texture. The alcohol is well hidden, mostly covered by the malt sugars, but becomes more present as the drink gets warmer.

Bottle from Rehills, Newcastle. Aged for around 16 months. Inky black with a rapidly disappearing thin tan head of foam. It has an extremely rich bitter dark chocolate, oak, vanilla and bourbon flavour with a strong leather and powerful roasted smooth, warming alcoholic finish. Nice but a bit too high ABV.

Bottle sample at a tasting. Thanks DSG. Deep brown with a big tan head. Smell of chocolate, licorace, coffee, vanilla, wood and alcohol. Rich flavors of chocolate, caramel, cocoa, smoke, berries, wood, bourbon. Full bodied, silky smooth. Great.

Aroma: vanilla, chocolate, whisky, coffee, cocoa, spice, pepper, molasses, liquorice, alcohol; Appearance: dark brown, minimal foamy head; Taste: intense bitterness, medium sourness, intense sweetness; Palate: thick texture, medium body, soft carbonation, long finishComplex, turfy, hoppy,whiskey-isch beer. Decent non-astringent bitterness. There is a considerable alcoholic warmth but it helps convey the aroma.

Bottle shared at a tasting at Max’s place. Thanks Nir A. for this bottle! Black with a small light brown head. Big aroma of bourbon, soy sauce, vanilla, dark chocolate, cookies, wood, light booziness. Bittersweet flavor with dark chocolate, bourbon, vanilla, a bit of soy sauce, wood, a bit of caramel, and a bit of alcohol. Full-bodied, slight booziness. Great stuff.

330ml bottle (300e of overpriced beer tasting) - thanks Marduk!
Ugh, that’s a messy aroma. Sweet, and very boozy, but it’s worse than just those aspects. Hard to pinpoint, but you don’t want it in your glass. Palate as expected, thick, sweet and hot. Taste is just whisky, almost no beer to be seen here, just a tonne of booze. A spirit that’s been diluted by some kind of beer, I guess.

330ml bottle. Very dark brown color. Small size, tan head, stays. Sweet, caramel, raisins, alcohol in aroma. Sweet, roast, cake, alcohol, ashy in taste. Strong alcoholic roast in aftertaste. Rough and alcoholic brew.

The overpriced tasting session at Koht. Crazy brew. Malty, ashy, bitter over the top with huge amount of hops. Not so dry, and no nasty sediment/aftertaste. Well balanced abv, if you can say that about 15% beer. As far as crazy goes - this batch 079 is good. No so much bourbon in this one though.

(Bottle, 0.33 l, 20150926) The beer poured black. Its head was small and lightly brown. Aroma had burnt malts, vanilla and sweetness. Palate was full bodied and dry with medium carbonation. Flavours were burnt malts, vanilla, wood, booze and bitterness. Aftertaste was boozy and bitter. The booze and wood hid the beer too much.

Black as hell, light brown head. Vanilla, cocoa and hints of bourbon on the nose. Sweet, thick and a bit like engine oil. Roasty bitterness and noteable alcohol, along with some vanilla sweetness. Perplexing. Good.
