COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
bottle and keg,series special
Imperial Stout aged in American Bourbon Barrels for 12 months. A schizophrenic translatlantic son of a bitch of a beer. Huge, decadent imperial stout clashes in the most beautiful way with the best incarnation of the American Dream since Nixon choked on a cheeseburger. We think this might just be the best Paradox ever. Available in both keg and bottle.

Aroma is a bit one sided towards bourbon. Black beer. Taste is first some bourbon which turns in to coffeeish licorice and continues in to the finish. Cloy sweetness on the finish. Light alcohol burn but not in the taste.

Pours into glass dark cola colored with smallish but thick, beige head. Smells quite sweet caramel bourbon, hints of vanilla with a bit of roasty smokiness. Taste is bourbon-ish carried with vanilla too, but body is too thin and carbonated for this kind of a beer in my humble opinion. Palate is again roasty and a slight burning sensation of alcohol, which does not occur in the taste. Overall a nice IS but is seriously lacking body.

Black beer with head on the sides and smallish lacing. Aroma has vanilla, wood, bourbon and tannin. Taste is sweet with vanilla, a bit salty with licorice and roasted. Bitter ending. Full body and low carbonation. Again with experimental BrewDog beers this is a way too boozy beer for my taste, with alc. content of ~12% this would’ve been a lot better.

Bottle from Appellation Wines. Appearance - opaque black thick and gloopy. Momentarily a thin fawn head which subsides quickly. Nose - dried fruit soaked in brandy. Some wood. A distinctive ginger cake note too. Taste - big chewy liquorice and almost rubber. Challenging boozy note too. Palate - big rich body with a dry and chewy mid palate texture and this continues into a long dry finish with some sweet elements to it. Overall - well it’s a bit gnarly and chewy but there is reward in persisting.

ABS (554) - Kristiansand, NORWAY - SEP 17, 2014
Bottle from Vinmonopolets BU. Pours close to black with a dark brown tint. A tiny, small bubbled, brown head. Smoke, vanilla, alcohol and some roasted malt nose. Balanced sweet and bitterness. Quite warming, but the alcohol is very well hidden. Thick, oily body. Low carbonation. Red fruit, some vanilla, dark chocolate flavour.

Paradox Heaven Hill a dark cola pour with a minimal tan head. The nose has lots of heat that burns your nostrils, vanilla, oak and bourbon with a solid umami backbone. Medium to full bodied with a sharp mouthfeel. The taste is rich savoury bourbon, chocolate, vanilla and oak. Not so complex but solid.
