TBone (4924), Pori, Finland May 1, 2008 Bottled (BB 01/2009)
Pitch black color, not much head. Smokey Scotch single malty whisky is dominating the aroma, but there is also underlying sweetness and licorice. Medium to full bodied - suprisingly easy to sip. Oak, smoke and tar dominate, almost more like drinking whisky than imperial stout. Aftertaste is not so aggressive than expected. Smokey, tarry, some hoppy bitterness. Balanced brew. I am not a whisky drinker, but I like smokey single malts, so this beer is pretty enjoyable.
CapnCascade (40), Calgary, Alberta, Canada Aug 21, 2008 Pours nearly black, hint of ruby all the way through when held up to the light, light tan head with almost no retention. Intense aroma of thoroughly burnt sugar and wood with an almost candy-like sweetness. Flavour begins with sweet notes of resinous alcohol, but quickly develops a decidedly burnt and peaty character. Finish is very long and quite dry, lasting impression of burnt wood and peat. Very smooth mouthfeel with just the slightest tingle of carbo. This ain’t subtle, but it sure is good... jeffwilliams11 (251), hooterville, Michigan, USA Aug 20, 2008 bottle. pours deep brown/black with almost no head. burbon flavor is almost nonexistant, kind of a let-down. rich, smooth body, very easy drinking. unfortunately, this bottle cost $13, and in my opinion, it was definately not worth that. tomthompson89 (1101), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Aug 18, 2008 Had this with Troy Burtch, super dark black color, smelled like scotch and smoke, decent beige head, alsmot kinda salty flavor, earthy, smokey again with some sweet chocolate as well, alcohol is well hidden. nice intresting beer. kp (6200), Woodstock, Georgia, USA Aug 13, 2008 Name: Paradox Islay 008

BeerandBlues2 (2451), Colorado Springs, Colorado, USA Aug 7, 2008 Bottle purchased at Liquor Max in Loveland, CO. Pours opaque with a bubbly, frothy, dark brown head, somewhat lasting with good lacing. Aroma is heavy malt (burnt, nutty, toast, coffee), light hops (grass), average yeast (leather) with notes of smoke, dates, prunes, and tar. Full bodied, sticky and spicy texture, lively carbonation, and a bitter finish. Long duration, light sweetness, heavy acidity and bitterness; some notes of alcohol and wood, very raw.
