That’s what I was hoping for as a big fan of Laphroiag. On the palate it’s peat and sensations of the ocean, capturing Islay in a glass. lithy (1650), Knoxville, Tennessee, USA

| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jul 8, 2009 Can you say peat? I have never smelled a beer quite like this one. Pours a dark black with traces of lingering head. I think aging this in the scotch barrells has given this beer a more medium bodied feel. On my palate I get scotch the peat flavor from the barrels, oak. Very nice and hides its alcohol very well. Madsnp (620), Odense C, Denmark

| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Jun 3, 2009 Bottle. Neck tag shows "Edition 009 Islay Ardbeg 1991". Pours pitch black. Short brown head. Aroma is big peat, smoldering wood, earth, roasted malt, iodine, cocoa, and salt. Taste is strong peat, burnt wood, dark chocolate, coffee, iodine, molasses, and scotch notes. The scotch is very evident in everything thus far. Body is soft but chewy. There’s a certain slickness to the palate but still is kind of creamy. Light-medium overall. You’d think the barrel aging wouldn’t thin these out much but it has on all three that I’ve had. The finish is more peat, iodine, salt, burnt wood, molasses, chocolate, roasted malt and coffee. Very tasty, especially if you like Islay scotch and imperial stouts, which I do.
