Smokey, salty whiskey aroma with some hints of vanilla. Flavor is dry with notes of wood, tar, scottish single malt whiskey, liquorice and again some vanilla. Being a whiskey fan this has to be one of the better imperial stouts I’ve had so far. A good whiskey stout. grandet (481), Scranton, Pennsylvania, USA

| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jun 7, 2008 Updated: Jul 7, 2008A very expensive beer at $12 for 11 ounces. Incredibly full aroma loaded with peat and smoke. More of the same in the flavor. Lots of smoke, and even in some Islay scotch I don’ taste as much peat. Some wood as well, that impart a mild oak flavor. TheEpeeist (1445), Swarthmore, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Jun 2, 2008 11.2 oz bottle. Ebony with a pocked tan head and wet lace. Nose is peat, leather, currants and coffee. Milky body with an alcohol buzz. Taste is licorice, tobacco and dark chocolate with ash. Oaky drying with cigar and dust. You can really taste the age on the barrels. I was skeptical the scotch would work but a smoother touch than the bourbon stuff. I’m still not won over. wetherel (1591), Encinitas, California, USA

This specific rating is for the stateside version from Ty. Wow. What a crazy aroma. Peat and repeat were sitting on a wall. Peat fell off, who was left. Repeat. Peat and repeat were sitting on a wall. Peat fell off, who was left. Repeat. You get the picture. Lots and lots of peat. Fun to smell. Pours black with a small head of small bubbles. Alcohol somewhat noticable, but in a good way. Leans a little dry. Not really roasty. Add a little more sweetness and this would be awesome. Otherwise, as is, it is just darn good and very interesting. blutt59 (2100), Dallas, Texas, USA

Aroma is a huge peat bomb with barbeque sauce and smoke. Taste has green pepper, peat, and barbeque sauce again. Medium-thin mouthfeel, but has an incredibly long finish. Overall I really enjoyed this beer.
