UPDATED: JUN 22, 2014 Bottle, at Vinspecialisten, Aalborg. Almost black, topped by a small dense, light tan colored head. Molasses, coffee, some chocolate and roasted malts in the aroma. Alcohol too. It’s pretty warming on the palate, full bodied and soft. Caramel, coffee, dark chocolate, molasses and alcohol in the flavor, some roasted kind of bitterness. Lasting finish. A pleasant one indeed, tasteful too, but so warming it’s probably best for sharing. 140228

Keg at BrewDog Camden, London. Pours black with a small, beige cream cap. Rich dark malt nose, lots of chocolate, dark sugars, licorice, raisins, vanilla. Big sweet flavor, lots of dark sugars up front, currants, raisins, then some mellow bitterness, burnt wood, a bit of earth. Full bodied, chewy, with fine carbonation. Warm finish, though not as hot as you might expect, lots of dark fruits, preserves, raisins, prunes, some sugary chocolate, cherry cordials, marzipan, light charred malts. Great stuff. Drinks exceptionally well for the strength.
