330 ml bottle - savoured at home in a sniffer - taken fom notes. Pours pitch black, flat, no head. Aromas of chocolate and some smoked whisky notes. Glavour is really balanced with the subtle peated character. Okay, but a tad overrated.

Bouteille 11,2oz (batch 016).

Retired bottle. One less in the world. Strong whisky aroma. Dark but not thick or oily. Nice sweet vanilla and chocolate flavors but with a nice whisky bite.

Pours black opaque with small tan head. Aroma of (rum and) raisin fudge, slightly smoky, black cherry, port or sherry, good coffee, brown sugar and liquorice. Many, many flavours flood the mouth. Palate is surprisingly smooth, almost ice-cream like without the coldness. Small tingle of carbonation. Quite sweet with tart finish hitting you out of the blue. A sipper of a drink, not one for rushing. Been in storage for nearly 2 years after buying from the Arran Distillery shop and well worth waiting to open. One to savour. Pity it is no longer produced although I do have one more bottle stashed away for a rainy day.

Pours dark and black with a small brown head. Nose is light smoke, chocolate, raisins and cherries. The taste is sweet with a little bitter at the end joined by a hint of tart. The mouthfeel is crisp but also smooth as time goes by, the body is medium and the finish is long. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Pours burgundy black with low tan head. Aroma of vanilla, soy, roasted malt, coffee, brown sugar, dates and figs. Just a hint of barrel but there and pleasant. Taste is immediately peaty with tons of smoke and later almost burgundy barrels. Body is medium to full, creamy and oily. Low carbonation. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Aroma: The smell is pungent, wood, smoke, coffee, and a musky old barn.
Appearance: A black beer! Brown rather small head, good lacing however.
Taste: The taste is almost overpowering in it’s rich smoky burnt flavors, some sweet liqorice and a good bitterness. But mostly dusty earth notes. Something like a liquid smoked sausage.
Palate: The mouthfeel is coarse, the carbonation is medium.
Overall: This is an interesting beer that needs the right surroundings, for example a salty hard cheese like an Edamer or a not to ripe Brie. And Celtic Punk.
Note: bottle Reviewed 2010-01-15.
