Hay-cereal smell with notes of hop and barley. A light aroma rather fresh but straight forward. Some fruit floral traces, layered with some vanilla which must come from the Arran whisky and some punchy ginger spiciness. Black as Black can be. Scientists need to find a black hole? There you go! Seems sucking up the light. Small tan head. Outstanding! Rather sweet as a whole but some bitter-sour traces on the tip of the tongue. Bit oily on the lips. Full body, slick and oily. Roast notes on the roof of the palate. Rather long lasting chocolate finish.

Smells totally awesome; however, there is no head at all on this-strange. First sip is sweet stout, then comes some whiskey, a hint of alcohol, but really not much, then a lot of chocolate. Incredibly smooth. Too bad it’s so expensive.

Bottle at Beer Bistro Toronto. Pours a dark brown closer to black colour. Not much head and little clotty lacing. Aroma is quite enjoyably boozy, with whiskey tones. Taste is malty and caramel, bourbon, scotch. Just awesome complexity.

330ml bottle. Pours an opaque near-black, with a firm tan head, which lasts well, and leaves good lacing. Oak, sea spray, peat smoke and coffee mingle on the nose, neatly encapsulating both Islay whisky and stout. Prickling herbal hops begin, moving into sweet dark chocolate and coffee, before a hit of peat smoke and whisky spice. Bitter dark chocolate comes in towards the end, mixing with the peat smoke in one of the more delightful flavour combinations I have encountered in a beer. This is the best of the Paradox stouts I have had thus far. A truly magnificent beer.

On tap at the Stone Bistro in August 2009. Poured a very dark, thick black with a moderate tan head. The smell was definitely of whiskey along with a nice malty sweetness. A little bit of dark fruit. The taste was very well organized, with the whiskey being predominant, although a very nice malt sweetness was in the background. Very viscous with low carbonation, which was quite proper. The drinkability was good, but the glass I split with my wife was plenty. Serving type: on-tap Reviewed on: 03-15-2010

bottle at the beer bistro. Very dark pour with a small fluffy head. Aroma of vanilla, oak, scotch, smoke, roasted malt, and cocoa. The scotch really comes through, lots of subtle peat, and smoke notes. They mingle very well with the vanilla and the oak. I’m not a ascotch fan, but i enjoy the scotch flavor being mixed with an impy stout. excellent sipper, what a great beer.
