3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 13/20 magdalar (500) - Zurich, SWITZERLAND - MAR 14, 2012
33cl bottle from Erzbierschof.
Pours black, with a tan head.
Smells muted, with roasted malt, some wood, and some dried fruit notes.
Tastes excessively sweet, smoked, with a lot of soy, whiskey, and alcohol.
Texture is oily, body is full, carbonation is tingly.
Finishes with a roasted bitterness, and some cloying sweetness.
It’s interesting, but hard to enjoy -- the sweetness comes first, and extreme, followed by the soy and whisky, and then the bitterness comes in. Quite an assault.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 Leighton (6989) - London, ENGLAND - MAR 11, 2012
On tap at BrewDog Camden, London. Pours deadly, oily black with a lively, creamy beige foam head. With just the slightest of swirls the beer comes back to life with the head as good as new. The aroma does not suggest the beer is as strong as it is. There are certainly notes of whiskey, but the intensity is less than I’d expect. Also notes of vanilla, burnt cocoa, wood and lots of dark, ripe fruits in the nose. The flavor makes you believe in the 15%. It is very sweet, yes, but there’s also a boozy sting that hits you right away. Once you get beyond the strong alcohol, there is some nice burnt wood character, along with raisins, dark cocoa, licorice, and mild peat. Full, full in body with fine tot average carbonation. Hot finish with the booze really stinging the teeth and all. There’s a long, oaky and burnt malty finish as well, highlighted with sugary, dark and ripe fruits, licorice, alcohol, prunes, light tobacco, earth, moss, dark sugars, toffee and molasses. This is a HUGE beer. A 1/3 of a pint is almost too much, but that’s what I’ve got. I do enjoy it, but now, afterr three beers in this pub on a warm Sunday afternoon, I am ready to go home.

Very dark ruby color, small fugitive baige head. Whiskey, smoked malt, some coffee and chocolate in the aroma. Texture is moderate oily, carbonation is soft. At finish I felt like to bite into some bacon. Jura is a crazy scottish stuff like other Brewdog materials.
