330ml bottle. Pitch black body with a low mocca coloured head. Nice concept but this one is way too sweet.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 12/20
UPDATED: MAY 3, 2014 AROMA: complex, whiskey, notes of smoke, roasty;
APPEARANCE: black, opaque, noticeable suspension, unspectacular head, no lacing;
TASTE: quite a lot of whiskey, roasty, smoky, heavy sweetness (tiring after some time), light bitter, heavy note of alcohol;
PALATE: full body, sticky texture, little carbonation, alcohol-based warming, short mainly sweet finish;
OVERALL: doesn’t meat my expectations; too much whiskey, too weak bitterness counter, but it remains an interesting beer.

Botella de 33 cl en el lúpulo. Lote 447.

4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle, at home. Bottle has been in my fridge for a couple of years I think. The best-before date is difficult to read, but looks like 13-12-16. The beer pours a very black one, with a nice light brown head which dissolves into a fractal pattern of small bubbles. Aromawise we’ve got a lot. It’s difficult to describe. Chocolate, sweet red fruits, coffee, sweet malts, wood. Thick mouthfeel, very low carbonation. Somewhat sweet, but not horribly. Flavor is liquorice, wood, vanilla, coffee grains, leather, chocolate, notes of dark fruits (prunes, raisins, cherries), nuts, a touch of alcohol. The 15% abv is very well hidden behind all the flavor. Something to sip for a long time!

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
330ml bottle shared with jeevan, and also on keg at the Edinburgh bar. One of the more subtle of the Paradox series, although that might be a contradiction in terms. Cracking stout underneath the light whiskey thing going on. Roast coffee and charcoal, vanilla, peat. Grand.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle from Bay Ridge in Annapolis. A little pricey but my first Brewdog and hopefully doing so in style. Pours i to my FW Teku dark brown to black and murky in the glass, a very small brown head that turns into just a ring around the top in no time. Aroma is up front scotch whiskey, caramel, chocolate, some dark fruit, oak. Flavor begins with whiskey notes, molasses, and a bit of dark fruit, then bursts into huge nutty flavors and lots of peat. Finishes with nutty, peaty caramel flavors with a slight vanilla and oak. A really beautiful medley of flavors here that come in waves. Medium heavy mouthfeel with relatively high carbonation for the style. Lots of trash talk on Brewdog it seems but this is a real treat. Wouldn’t hesitate to have this again. Obviously plenty of alcohol presence here but surprisingly sippable despite the ABV. While listed as an imperial stout, it really has more Wee Heavy, Old Ale, or Barleywine characteristics than stout. Not a bad thing, of course, and rather yummy.
