Bottle. Salted dark chocolate, wood smoke. Black, low head. Fullbodied, creamy mouthfeel. Light flowery, bitter chocolate, salt, light spices, a hint heat. Very well balanced and quite delicate.

Another whisky-aged variant of the Paradox, with completely black robe and thin, light beige, unstable head. Very complex and agressive aroma, overwhelming perfume loaded with chocolate liqueur, charchoal, whisky, banana, crème de cassis, wood, raisins, sweet tobacco, vanilla... Rounded palate, thick and creamy, powdery mouthfeel, molasses and candied fruits, port-wine, candi syrup and vanilla, very deep and complex maltiness, whisky-like alcohol and tannins in the finish but nowhere astringent, very chocolatey, long and complex. I liked this a lot more than the Isle of Arran version, fascinating how ageings on different barrels can lead to different stouts. In fact, this one belongs to best imperials I ever tasted, and will recall for a long time.

Bottle from online shop (July 2012). Dark oily black, dark brown head, aroma dominated by boozy dried fruits, oak, roasted malts, flavours more of the same, some chocolate, smoky, warm alcohol, long boozy finish. Ok.

Bottle at bottle share from Dan. Thanks! Pours a jet black, motor oil with a thin mocha head. Head gone in 30 seconds with slight ring left and mild lacing. Aroma of dark fruits, dark chocolate, roasted malts, vanilla, coffee, and caramel. The taste was a nice blend of the aromas presented with the dark chocolate and dark fruits most dominant. Slight boozy finish with dark cocoa and prunes. Some spice. Thick, full, chewy body. Solid beer.

Rated on my wives first Mothers Day Forrestal Apt West Seneca NY.Pours a dark jet black color with medium carbonation, thick head and good lacing. Huge aromas of brownie, chocolate, coffee, caramel, toffee, raisin, wood, dark molasses and brown sugar. Flavors highly sweet upfront with brown sugar, medium smoked wood (especially in the finish), medium alcoholic presence, molasses, slight chocolate/toffee/caramel. One of the most sweet stouts I’ve tried that takes away from the other complex flavors as does the alcohol. A great sipping beer that is worthy to buy again.

There is plenty of complexity to this barrel aged stout. Dried fruit and peat combines with the bracing whisky notes to round out this beer. I got a little smoke and heat, this is very malt forward. Very interested to see how this would mellow within 5 years.

This pours black like oil, same viscosity too. Dark fruit, peat, and dark chocolate on the nose; follows onto the palate. This finishes very earthy, the peat really comes through on the finish.
