sebletitje (1880), Tampa, Florida, USA Nov 7, 2009 Pours dark brown, thin mahoganny head.
Aroma is malty, grainy with hints of fresh sherry, vanilla, chocolate.
Flavor, wood/cask, whiskey, light roasted malts, some tobacco / char flavor, reminiscent of other Paradox beers.
Light sherry palate with hints of raisin/wine, wood/cask add .
Vanilla followed by a nice alcohol warming mouthfeel. The sherry is not over pronounced but gets easily picked up after the second sip.
Finish has some thin sherry notes mixed with possible chocolate bitterness. Tasty. Miksu (2187), Jyväskylä, Finland Oct 24, 2009 0.33 l bottle from Alko (as Paradox Speyside batch 011). Dark reddish brown color. Rich whisky and roasted malt aroma with chocolate, oak and vanilla. Firm roasty, bitter, whiskeyish and oaky flavor with vanilla, licorice and chocolate. Smooth palate with soft carbonation. Fairly light body for 10 % ABV beer, I like it this way. First sips taste very balanced and well integrated but after a while whisky gets too dominant. Very enjoyable though. Crit (2399), New Westminster, British Columbia, Canada Oct 22, 2009 Black, fast fading tan head.Rich malt nose.Harsh alcohol profile, very sweet.Hint of vanilla. Lacks body and carbonation. Disappointing after reading all the good comments austone (999), Turku; Pori, Finland Oct 22, 2009 33cl bottle. Almost black, coarse tiny beige head. Mellow vanilla nose, smooth and little creamy, some licorice, woodiness and honey like macallan. Flavor has more licorice and molasses, mild wood chips and whiskey alcoho, not too disturbing tho. Slightly coarse Apotek’s salmiak finish. Not that thick palate, low carbonation, could be a bit smoother. Not that bold, just like most speyside malts I’ve had. But I do like Macallans, don’t get me wrong. fonefan (10868), VestJylland, Denmark Oct 5, 2009 Bottle 33cl. Clear dark red brown color with a average, frothy to creamy, good lacing, mostly lasting, off-white head. Aroma is light heavy malty, roasted, caramel, vanilla, smoked notes. Flavor is heavy heavy sweet and moderate to light heavy bitter with a long duration. Body is medium, texture is oily - creamy, carbonation is soft. [20090724] mgermani (862), Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada Oct 3, 2009 Pours a headless oily black with a pungent earthy spicy nose - lots of molasses. Flat watery sweet malt taste (this can’t be a stout!) gives way to alco-burn, hops, and strong whisky finish. This is a slow-sipper for sure! Very spicy, licorice, vanilla, not at all roasty or thick, more like a strong Scotch ale. Very tasty but in small quantities! oh6gdx (8801), Vasa, Finland Sep 21, 2009 Bottled (as Paradox Speyside (Batch 11), had in London in August). Deep ambery brown colour with small beige head. Aroma is whiskybarrel, some mild plum, raisins, berries, mild earth and fruityness. Flavour is fruits, some wood, caramel malts, mild liquorice, some slight vanilla and also a very sweet alcohol stinging note. Probably the sweetest BrewDog Paradox I’ve had so far. Papsoe (14642), Frederiksberg, Denmark Sep 17, 2009 Bottle 33 cl. Courtesy of madmitch76. Clear, reddish brown with a rough, beige head. Lightly peaty smoke in the nose, also hard roasted malt and some alcohol. Quite full-bodied, fruity - dried fruit - vanilla and hard burned malts. Distinct malt bitterness. 240709
