4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
330 ml bottle, bottled on 8/15/09; over three years old. Pours opaque black with no head, only a small ring of big-bubbly foam. Aroma consists of overripe dark fruit, mocha, smoke, tobacco, leather, licorice. Taste is sweet, smoky and nutty with a slightly tart finish. Licorice and tar are prominent in flavor. Wow...yum. Carbonation is soft, mouthfeel is oily. Delicious, ugly, complex....what an experience.

3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
11.2oz bottle, thanks to Jay. Batch 15. Best before 9/08/10. Definitely a big whiskey barrel aroma in the nose, with a good smoked note. Roasty malt aroma, but less than you’d find in most imperial stouts, and more whiskey big woody flavor. Light dark-chocolate, coffee. Vanilla. Very, very light carbonation. Almost flat. Only a medium body, not really as chewy as I expected it to be, but creamy for sure. Rich, sweeter taste, some bitter, with an alcohol/whiskey buzz on the tongue through the finish and long into the aftertaste. Kind of chemically, though you know it isn’t actually. Color is dark but not opaque; clear brown on the edges. Very, very little khaki head, leaving dots of lace. Likely past it’s prime, but although it’s kind of abusive it’s still very tasty; an enjoyable interesting experience.

4.6 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20

Massive amount of peat and lifted smokey birch on the nose. Very power and confronting. Really like super sweet whiskey in this respect. More sweetness in the palate and some boozy hardness from the abv. Interesting but over the top and maybe unnecessarily so for my tastes.

Bottle from bitter virtue shared with bristol beer factory guys. Dark brown-black with cola head, lots of bonfire and bandages here. Although phenolic its less medicated than some with chocolate and coffee also emerging. Long Peaty finish.
