27/03/2011 Ma che siete venuti a fà (tap). Spillata a pompa, nerissima impenetrabile. Aroma complesso di caffè, con note legnose e alcoliche. In bocca è davvero complessa, caffè, vaniglia, liquirizia.

This was very divisive among my friends. Gosh, it’s big, and I love that deep salami, smoke, peat flavor. But the strike against this is a particularly thin body, which isn’t becoming in a beer of this strength (by abv and flavor) and the expectations produced by knowing that it is an Imperial Stout.

Wonderful aroma -- certainly can ascertain the islay influence; however, after that, the beer is a bit flat -- in taste not necessarily carbonation. Nice beer, sure, but not worth the relatively high cost.

Creamy medium malty, roast and caramel smell. Burnt? Solid Black with a tan creamy lasting head. Medium oily body with soft carbonation. Dry Sweet Sugar caramel start smoke and roast center licorice with a burnt dry ash finish. Lingering sweetness. Light warming tummy feeling. pleasant. It stong but doesn’t kick you like nuclear penguins do. I like it.

11.2 oz bottle with date of 08/08/08. Pours black but is actually very dark brown when held to light. Minimal coarse off-white head. Not the prettiest beer. Nose of peat smoke first, followed by coffee and chocolate A good marriage of Islay scotch and imperial stout right off the bat. Wow - what a unique taste! Smoke is more prevalent in nose than taste. Flavor is very reminiscent of a dank cigarette smokey bar and bbq meat - the burnt ends of smoked brisket to be exact. Quite salty. Deep beneath the bbq is the coffee and toffee malt. Some leather and dust in the relatively dry and quick finish. Kind of afraid this one is past its prime at over 3 years old.

Bottle from Brewdog Online, purchased a while back. It pours opaque black, with a thin beige head. The nose is unsurprisingly smokey, as well as roasted malt, peat and sticky caramel. The taste is roasted malt, smoked peat, chocolate, charred wood, liquorice, caramel, vanilla and alcohol warmth, with a long, smokey-dry roasted finish. Full body, low-moderate carbonation and sticky mouth-feel. Flavoursome and bold.

Black, thick dense head. Smells like smoke, peat, and chocolate. Flavor smokey and earthy, with a lot of chocolate. There is also a weird medicinal note. A bit of a chore to finish...

Salty, soy flavor, with some whiskey, peaty bits in there. Not nearly as complex as I was expecting. A bit disappointed.

The aroma is very woody which is nice, but the taste is just a litlle to strong.

The taste is too much like smoke and wood. I can’t appreciate this kind of strong taste.
