courtesy of Laurent Mousson - hazy very dark brown colour with a modest head retention; distinctive lowland whisky notes in the front of roasted black chocolate; full-bodied and very bitter, dry and long bitter and roasted chocolatey finish with whisky tones staying in the background - not so thick as you could think it would be

Bottle picked up in bottle shop, Edinburgh, 20-03-09 consumed 01-04-09 Pours almost black peeling away to a very dark brown at the outer edges with a decent sized tan head. Nice warmth from the alcohol and a touch of creaminess start the ball rolling. There is a wonderfully indulgent dark chocolate theme running through this beer and whilst I’m not a whisky lover its definately noticeable in here and yet is integrated so well it really adds a certain something and doesn’t lessen its appeal for me. Lovely roastiness and cocoa on the nose. This is really good stuff. A8 A4 F8 P4 OV17 4.1

Thank you Craig (cgarvieuk) for the bottle marked best before 09/12/10. Let us see how this one differs. Black with a 1/2 finger frothy tan head, fair retention. The whisky in this one seems to be the most subtle--all I pick up on is some faint peat and iodine. There is also some dark chocolate and bitter roasted malts. Flavor definitely has the whisky component, but isn’t as strong as with the other Paradox batches that I’ve had. Dry finish with a little bit of salt to go along with a bitterness of 3-4. Light carbonation with a full body. The base beer still isn’t terribly impressive, but I don’t think that’s the point. Good, but not my favorite version.

Bottle from the brewery, at home with tashi, 27th Feb 2009. Very dark reddish brown, nearly still, no head. Sublime taste and palate - very like the Smokehead version. Smoky whisky hints and lots of lovely roast malt.

Bottle thanks to mesandsim had at home. Alround rating: Great balanced whisky goodness, woody, mellow, the alc is very well hidden. But springbank is one of my hav whisky’s and you can really taste it in this.

A Mes rate. Bottle thanks to the good folks at BrewDog. Looks like a Paradox and that is no bad thing at all. Especially in my new BrewDog chalice. Both the aroma and flavour are filled with rich dark chocolate and cocoa. This has the character of very high quality Christmas chocolates with whisky in. I have to say this one has fused perfectly. Generally as a rule I love paradox but this one really stands out for me. The gorgeous Springbank is integrated remarakbly well and the end result is just so smooth, mellow and refined it’s just an absolute delight. A creamy dream on the palate thanks to the chocolatey feel and a tiny hint of woodsmoke in the perfect warming finish with a delicate dryness rounds it off pretty much perfectly. This is the most drinkable of the series since the RB crew nailed 56 pints of the batch 2 on cask in Blackies. One of the very best of the range for me and yet more brilliance from a class brewery.
