COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Bottle and keg: Filtered. Cask: Unfiltered.
Ingredients: Marris Otter Extra Pale Malt; Chinook, Crystal, Motoeka hops. IBUs 65
A beer of inherent contradiction. This heavy weight of the beer world is strikingly delicate with a white gold appearance. The light fruity aroma dominates the initial confrontation; lychee, kiwi and passionfruit all prevail with subtle nuances of cherry and strawberry. Don’t be fooled however by this smooth medium bodied ale. As it trickles down your throat as this wolf in sheep’s clothing begins to grow teeth. The bite comes as the bitterness builds and endures no matter how hard the malty sweetness of the alcohol tries to tame this ferocious beast.

NOTE: The recipe was changed at the end of 2009, and this version is no longer made, if you have a bottle with a BBD after 1.1.12, you should go to the "Punk IPA (5.4%)" version.

Bottle. Pours hazy pale yellow with a dense eggwhite-like head. Potent hops nose, mostly pine and green apples. Good malty start with piney hop bitterness balancing nicely. Very harmonious despite its name.

Cask, gravity, at Nottingham Beer Festival ’07. Fruity aroma is distinctive. Possibly mango, but most reminiscent of one of the flavours in ’Starburst Choozers’ sweets. Ashy malt taste with a sweet background. Sharp grassy bitter finish. Quite appealing.

Bottle. Golden with a small head. Aromas are sweet and bitter lemon with herbal notes. Very clean and hoppy. Flavours are dry, hoppy and bitter with biscuit malts and pine. Alcohol is evident. More bitterness on the finish. Good.

Bottle. Thank wolfyman for sharing this! A "Post Modern Classic Pale Ale" written on the label. Pours a quite pale golden colour (weakish neon) with a rather small head though leaving a good lacing. Nice pine aroma with fruits, some sweetness and wet squashed grass. Good dry mouthfeel. The flavour is quite dry and hoppy with pine, bit of fruits and some sweetness. Dry bitter hoppy finish. Good mild English IPA, which is far from as fruity as some American counterparts.

Bottle. [shared with faroeviking @ Plan B. Bought @ the brewery]
Pours a light neon-ish yellow with a slight green hue. A small fluffy white head that leaves lots of lacing. Aroma is bready, pine, caramel and grass. Mouthfeel is nice and very dry. Flavour begins with a good dose of caramel (which is a surprise, considering the beers colour). Then it turns well bitter, pine, flowers and grass - some pieapple as well. This is a stunning example of a very British IPA. Great!

downender (4382) - Bristol, Gloucestershire, ENGLAND - SEP 13, 2007
Bottle from Utobeer. Very pale gold colour with a slight off-white head. Hoppy aroma of citrus and grass. Flavour was pure hops with grapefruit and a slight hint of resin, and a very long bitter finish. Good, but a bit one dimensional.

UPDATED: FEB 15, 2010 3rd LCRBM. This beer smells like a big manure heap on a barnyard somewhere in rural Franconia. It almost distracts from the indeed quite hoppy, flowery flavor with citrus and peanut butter. Dirty mouthfeel, still a decent beer. (5 3 7 3 12) Bottle @ home Blonde. melon and citrus in the aroma. Firm citric hopbitter flavor, slightly oily with melon and pineapple. Somewaht oily and oily hopbitter finish. Good!

Fully clear pale beer; little head left. Dry, cheesy hops dominating the nose. Bitter, very aromatic hopsflavour, grapey. Very light MF, slick, but more as from fruitjuice or maybe wheat. Very good beer, a bit British-timid, but nice.

Cask in Glasgow. Compared to some of their whisky stouts, this is almost subdued, but it is a splendidly hoppy IFA with a nice pine aroma. This should be widely available on cask!
