COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Bottle and keg: Filtered. Cask: Unfiltered.
Ingredients: Marris Otter Extra Pale Malt; Chinook, Crystal, Motoeka hops. IBUs 65
A beer of inherent contradiction. This heavy weight of the beer world is strikingly delicate with a white gold appearance. The light fruity aroma dominates the initial confrontation; lychee, kiwi and passionfruit all prevail with subtle nuances of cherry and strawberry. Don’t be fooled however by this smooth medium bodied ale. As it trickles down your throat as this wolf in sheep’s clothing begins to grow teeth. The bite comes as the bitterness builds and endures no matter how hard the malty sweetness of the alcohol tries to tame this ferocious beast.

NOTE: The recipe was changed at the end of 2009, and this version is no longer made, if you have a bottle with a BBD after 1.1.12, you should go to the "Punk IPA (5.4%)" version.

a surprising gold clear gold color with almost no head. a pear/peach hop aroma. flavors of pear, pineapple. not a big malt presence here. light bodied with a dry finish.

330ml bottle from Tesco, Alfreton/ Amber with a ring of white head; bitter marmalade aroma; tangy bitter citrus flavour with orange and grapefruit predominating; warming and intensely bitter finish. Very smooth and mellow, an excellent easy-drinking well-balanced IPA.

Clean, smooth, a little scotchy and smokey. Citrus and faded. Lingering bitter finish. Good, but there are waaaaaay cheaper pale ales out there that are just as good.

UPDATED: MAR 15, 2011 Re-rate 3/15/11: Hazy golden color with a big bubbly white head. Hoppy aroma of citrus and tropical fruits. Bitter juicy grapefruity hops flavor. A very bitter finish that stays on the tongue long after I swallow the beer. Medium-bodied. Good. 7/3/8/3/15=3.6

[9/10/09] Bottle at Beer Temple in Amsterdam. Hazy orange-golden with a small white head. Aroma of flowers, citrus, tropical fruits, some yeast and some pale malt notes. Mostly dry flavor with nice strong bitter hoppiness with citrus and light spiciness. Medium-bodied. A nice IPA. 7/3/8/3/15=3.6

Pours a pale translucent yellow with a one finger eggshell white head. The nose shows some citrus rind, a bit perfumy, floral, lemonrind, mild sweetness. Flavor shows some citrus rind, medium bitterness, a tad astringent, menthol. Palate is astringent and persistently bitter.

(Cask at Gallows Bird on 2008-01-26) Very clear. A bit yellow colour. Fruity hops in nose and in taste, too. Rather light bodied but some malts can be tasted. The bitterness lasts in the aftertaste quite long. Still, a bit dull IPA.

Batch 003, best by 7/7/08. Hazy orange-yellow with a thin white loose foam cover. Citrus hop aroma, a bit piney, some biscuit malts. Taste is pronounced pine resin, bitter hops, hints of citrus, and more maltiness but not much caramel as many IPAs have.

Pours yellow with a small white head. Aroma is grassy, earthy hops. I didn’t get any of the citrus or pine that other people have mentioned. The flavor is mainly hoppy, with lots of earthy hops. Quite a bit of bitterness and not much of a malt backbone. Thin mouthfeel. Decent beer, but nothing special.

Four oz sample from a botttle at the 3 sons beer tasting. Not much hop aroma. Looks like pale lager. Bitter and somewhat strong but smoother than most IPA. Bitter hop linger. Quite watery body for an IPA. Very little carbonation.
