COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Bottle and keg: Filtered. Cask: Unfiltered.
Ingredients: Marris Otter Extra Pale Malt; Chinook, Crystal, Motoeka hops. IBUs 65
A beer of inherent contradiction. This heavy weight of the beer world is strikingly delicate with a white gold appearance. The light fruity aroma dominates the initial confrontation; lychee, kiwi and passionfruit all prevail with subtle nuances of cherry and strawberry. Don’t be fooled however by this smooth medium bodied ale. As it trickles down your throat as this wolf in sheep’s clothing begins to grow teeth. The bite comes as the bitterness builds and endures no matter how hard the malty sweetness of the alcohol tries to tame this ferocious beast.

NOTE: The recipe was changed at the end of 2009, and this version is no longer made, if you have a bottle with a BBD after 1.1.12, you should go to the "Punk IPA (5.4%)" version.

660 mL bottle, best by 29-12-11. Pours golden amber with a white head. Aroma of tropical fruits, some floral notes, grassy notes, and toasted biscuit. Flavor is more on the toasty biscuit side, with some definite hop bitterness and hints at grassy and floral hops, making a tea impression. A little tropical fruit makes an impression later. Kind of off for me. I see this was one of the last batches of this recipe made. The best by date is probably on the optimistic side.

Hazy pale gold, big white head, sweet, citrusy hoppy aroma. Assertive hop taste, dry bitter finish... Hey Alex Keith! This is what an IPA is supposed to taste like!

Bottle looks good, beer in the glass also, very zippy, nice head. Starts very hoppy and dry, quite scratchy-woody. Modest fruity. Finish still very dry, somehow unbalanced. Not my favourite.

Golden beer with a big and quite longliving white foam. Inviting appearance and fresh rousing smell of grass, pine and resin. Bitter mouth feel. Medium sweetness. Long dry and bitter finish.

Long time favourite - a serious IPA for hop lovers. Initially a strong tingling hop aroma which becomes orangey with herbal notes. Tastes dry which explodes on the tongue, with a full mouth feel - entertaining all the taste buds. More thoughts at http://hophead.tumblr.com

Bottle: aroma, some bready malt, some hay, citrus and mango from the hops, very nice in the flavor, more hop bitterness, less hop flavor, some sweetish malt. some juicy tropical fruits notes, very nice ipa overall but nothing special.

a light fruity aroma and initial malty sweetness is very, very deceiving. it will throw your tongue straight into the mosh pit with it’s ferocious hoppiness. can’t wait to try the new 5.6% A.B.V. dry hopped version.

It pretty much does what it says on the tin (bottle). A light pale looking beer that packs a punch on the finish. Aroma is clean and as crisp as a lager, but any subtlety on the tongue is quickly strangled by a bite of bitter hops. Grapefruit on the finish but with a sourness rather than citrous refreshing. I’m a big fan of American IPAs and pale ales but this one shades it into the gimmicky and slightly out of balance with it’s rawness. Still an interesting beer though and I’ll give it another go. Be interesting to try the 5.4% version which may do it better.
