Commercial Description:
A beer of inherent contradiction. This heavy weight of the beer world is strikingly delicate with a white gold appearance. The light fruity aroma dominates the initial confrontation; lychee, kiwi and passionfruit all prevail with subtle nuances of cherry and strawberry. Don’t be fooled however by this smooth medium bodied ale. As it trickles down your throat as this wolf in sheep’s clothing begins to grow teeth. The bite comes as the bitterness builds and endures no matter how hard the malty sweetness of the alcohol tries to tame this ferocious beast.

My Bottom Line:
This floral IPA’s silky mouthfeel is conducive to showing off its lightly honeyed cereals and poignant leafy bitterness, as well as facilitating the largest gulps.

Further Personal Perceptions:
-A ring of foam surrounds the hazy blond.
-The hop aroma is not explosive à la West Coast-style IPA...with a text on the label that nearly plagiarizes Arrogant Bastard and a name like Punk IPA, I have to say I was expecting a West Coast-style IPA.
-This bottle is a tad undercarbonated, which might emulate the cask mouthfeel Scots are used to?
-The lingering hop bitterness is leafy as well as resinous.
-The sweet cereals are present throughout even though they do not contribute tons of flavors.
-Dried tropical fruitiness stems from the union of potent hopping and sweet cereals.

Bottle; batch 135, best before 10/08/2009.

Pours a murky orange color. I’m impressed with the hop profile from the Scots here. Big bitter, lemon citrus and grapefruit flavors. Aroma is faint but has a bit of citrus in there. For a straight IPA this has some good flavor. The malt profile is a little non-descript but has a faint caramel tinge in the way back.

Managed to knock half of this over and slice a finger on a shard of glass. Took it all in my stride though - after a few sips of this mischief and mishaps will be second nature. Tastes a bit like woodwork lessons - sawdust, electric shocks and fingers in vices. Despite the japery, there’s a serious beer in here too. A prominent, considered bitterness and a wealth of flavour. Would definitely have again, though perhaps not too many...

Aroma of some yeast, bread, orange peel, and pale malt. Color is opaque orange with diminishing head. Flavors are sweet and lightly caramely with a light fruity bitter duration with a hint of grapefruit on the finish. Palate is fairly flat with a light creaminess. Duration is short and lightly bitter. This bottle might be a little old as the beer is fairly lifeless on the palate although the flavors aren’t bad. The printing is hard to tell if it was best before 7/7/08 or 7/7/09. Doesn’t live up the the aggressive commercial description here or a different one on the bottle either. I’ll try it again sometime. Seems quite quite tame and wimpy compared to the two Great Divide Hercules Double IPA’s I had last night.

Bottle, best before 01/01/09. Oh well. Aroma of various citrus notes, orange peel, lemon flesh, maybe even some tangy limy sort of notes. Flavor also filled with unusual fruit notes jumping out at various moments, all vaguely connected to citrus, but in a way I’ve never really tasted in other IPAs. The malt showed moments of dark fruit and brown sugar richness as well, as is to be expected past its best before date. Really nice and intriguing beer.

Batch 001, best before 01/01/09 (oops), bottle from my Secret Santa. Pours a slightly cloudy light gold with a small, foamy white head. Aroma is fruity, with some raisins and sweet malt. Flavor is sweet malt initially with a bitter citrus/fruity finish. Nice and drinkable even though it is a little past its prime. 7/4/8/4/14 (3.7/5)

In short: A sweet and floral IPA. Decent.
How: Bottle 330ml, consumed very fresh (8 months before best-before date)
The look: Almost clear golden yellow body topped by a short lived white head
In long: The floral nose mixes fruity elements (grapefruits), garden flowers a little perfuny note. Attack is rather sweet but the finish is quite dry. With its crunchy sweetness and its hopping the beer tastes like eating baklavas, dried tropical fruits and garden flowers at the same time. The carbonation is very soft, too soft actually, I didn’t car for the foamy mouthfeel. Not a bad beer but I was tired of it after a single small bottle. This punk doesn’t rock.
