Commercial Description:
A beer of inherent contradiction. This heavy weight of the beer world is strikingly delicate with a white gold appearance. The light fruity aroma dominates the initial confrontation; lychee, kiwi and passionfruit all prevail with subtle nuances of cherry and strawberry. Don’t be fooled however by this smooth medium bodied ale. As it trickles down your throat as this wolf in sheep’s clothing begins to grow teeth. The bite comes as the bitterness builds and endures no matter how hard the malty sweetness of the alcohol tries to tame this ferocious beast.

Grapefruit aroma. Pale amber with little head. Flavour is very bitter grapefruit. Badly unbalanced. Medium body. Finishes coppery bitter. Seriously not to my taste.

Bottle Very pale golden color. Piney, citrus hop aroma. Fragrant yet restrained compared to an American IPA. Light golden biscuit malt, and some tropical fruit. Light malt flavor with just a touch of caramel, some wood, lemon and lychee, and huge bitterness. Raw, long, bitter finish. Very light body, watery really, with not enough maltose to balance the hops. An interesting and original take on the English IPA, though certainly unbalanced and almost unpleasant, but definitely worth trying.

Got this bottle at Sam’s in Chicago a few months ago. Poured with a small off white head and a little lace. Color is a hazy yellow to amber. Aroma is very mild to hardly there. Flavor is also subtle with a bitter finish. Body is a bit watery and ok carbonation. Very underwhelming. Better as a Brit IPA than American, but still in light of most of BD’s other brews.... Ho hum.

[9/10/08] Bottle at Beer Temple in Amsterdam. Hazy orange-golden with a small white head. Aroma of flowers, citrus, tropical fruits, some yeast and some pale malt notes. Mostly dry flavor with nice strong bitter hoppiness with citrus and light spiciness. Medium-bodied. A nice IPA.

Bottle. Pours hazy golden yellow with a small white head that goes very quickly. Nose has hoppy aromas of lemon and pine as well as a slight soapy undertone. Flavour is also fairly hoppy with hints of citrus, caramel, honey and some woody/piney elements. Not bad as far as IPAs go but was expecting something a little bit more original or adventurous from BrewDog.

Poured cloudy orange colour with a slightly off white head that left pretty quickly. Not much on the nose. Obvisously some hops, citrus & pine aromas, but not much else. Flavour is all about the hops, once again citrus and piney flavours. Mouthfeel is quite dry with lingering hop bitterness. Lacks some of the dimesion of other IPA’s I have had but still a good beer.

From a 750 bottle this poured a hazy golden color with a white head and fat white had and good lacing rings. Nose of citrus and floral hops, and tropical fruits. Good smooth mouthfeel. Flavor is nicely biter as befits this style and the finish is dry and bitter.

A bit one dimensional. Almost no nose, and a thin malty backbone. But the hops are in full display here, and they are quite delicious. A dry beer, and full of bitter dry resiny hop flavor, without being overpowering. Still, a bit lacking on a decent malt counterpoint. Overall a very nice beer, but a somewhat average IPA.
