3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20 AshtonMcCobb (779) - Edinburgh, SCOTLAND - SEP 29, 2011
33cl bottle. Pours opaque black with a very good fawn coloured head, some of which is retained. The nose has coffee and pine, more pine than expected from a stout. The taste has a very bitter coffee note with maybe some faint liquorice. The palate has a medium to large structure with a big creamy middle section and a finish that doesn’t quite clean but is not cloying. Overall, a decent effort at a more hoppy and bitter stout.
2.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 8/20 77ships (744) - Antwerpen, BELGIUM - SEP 22, 2011
bottle@home - batch 457 – pours a very dark brown going to black, mocha/sandy head, steady, laces nicely, smell is definitely better than the taste, espresso, mocha, roasted malts, slight chocolate, dark shugar & booze, taste is where it goes wrong, watery, way too harshly roasted/burned malts, ashes, charcoal, petroleum, burned espresso, chocolate, rotting dark fruits, slight porto & peat, bitter, booze in the aftertaste, body is light & watery, like the little brother of Smokehead which was bad but interesting or a lesser offspring of Tokyo* which was good to great, extreme flavours definitely do not always equal something good, Brewdog can make a great beer but often they are more great marketers than brewers

4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 stantheman (59) - British Columbia, CANADA - AUG 28, 2011
Bottle from the cold case at a Vancouver private liquor store. Almost black in color under normal room lighting, yields a hint of reddish brown tones under strong back-lighting. A straight pour into a tapered glass brought about 5 cm of head, about the color of chocolate milk. Aroma is sweet with notes of well roasted malts. Flavor is rich and sweet with, the well roasted, slightly burnt malt yielding flavors of chocolate and coffee, both pronounced, and quite hoppy to boot. Mouth feel is rich; a bit oily. The high alcohol is evident. A world class imperial stout.
