3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 jkwood04 (1207) - Connecticut, USA - SEP 1, 2010
11.2oz bottle in a snifter. Pours black with little head. Aroma of chocolate, some malts, alcohol, and a resin note. Flavor of dark chocolate, dark fruit, alcohol, and a weird aftertaste. I think the bottle went bad. Full bodied, but could be thicker. A pretty good beer, would like to try on tap.
3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 Sledutah (1898) - Utah, USA - SEP 1, 2010
660ml bottle (BBD 12/12/09) from The Grapevine in Pocatello
Appearance: Pours thick black with a very small tan head that recedes quickly and very little lacing on the sides of the glass as I swirl it.
Aroma: Rich cocoa and dark fruits
Taste: Fairly smooth, but surprisingly has a slightly thin mouthfeel. Dark chocolate and malts, coffee and some hop bitterness in the finish
Nice and chocolatey.
3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 Spab (1118) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - AUG 29, 2010
330 ml bottle from Premier Wine & Spirits (Halifax). Pours a dark brown with small beige head. Dry, roasty coffee aroma with chocolate and some herbal hops. Taste similar - quite dry with coffee and chocolate dominating at first but giving way to pleasant herbal bitterness in finish. Rather acidic. Creamy mouthfeel. Enjoyable.
2.3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 10/20 wunderbier (1434) - Tampere, FINLAND - AUG 29, 2010
from old notes Inky brown-black under a sudsy tan head. Mild coffee and ash nose followed by milk chocolate, prunes and some sweat. Strong taste compared to the aroma; very sweet and roast-bitter with mild acidity and moderate finishing bitterness. Viscous through thinned a bit by hot alcohol, low carbonation, oily texture. Smells and tastes a bit dirty; carbonation feels a bit too low; hot alcohol. 33 cl bottle.
3.7 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 Die_Kapusta (190) - Malmö, SWEDEN - AUG 26, 2010
Seems totally black but if you hold it against a light source it turns into a dark blood red color. None excisting head. It has a very mild aroma of pumpernickel, honey and roasted notes. Taste is coffee, liqorice, cane sugar and some bitterness from hops. Reminds me a bit of Beer Geek Breakfast, which is nothing but positive.
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20 TheGent (467) - , Massachusetts, USA - AUG 21, 2010
wonderful beer, enjoyed on a rooftop in the north end of boston. Deep and dark black color with no real head. The aroma was very much plum and dried fruit with some chocolate mixed in as well. thinner mouth feel than one would expect from a stout but a rich roasted malt flavor with more of that prune note. Never got the sense of how strong this is and it sneaks up on you.
3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 TheJester (1230) - Peterborough, Ontario, CANADA - AUG 18, 2010
500 mL bottle. (bb 07/07/10). Seemed as though there may have been a problem with the cap, ’cause the beer seems a little flat and stale, and I can’t imagine that an IS would go off just a month and a half past its date. Having said that, it seemed as though this was once a solid beer, with lots of malt presence in the form of chocolate and roast. Could use a little more bite, though.
3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 tommann (1224) - Dudley, West Midlands, ENGLAND - AUG 11, 2010
330ml bottle. Pours pitch black with a medium head. Aroma is licorice, alcohol and some wood. Starts with some licorice, roasted coffee on the finish, low on the biterness. Could be a bit fuller.
