3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 Nuffield (3058) - Roseville, Minnesota, USA - JUL 5, 2010
98% opaque, very dark body. All the requisite elements of an imperial stout combining in a very drinkable and smooth profile--nothing harsh, nothing astringent, very moderate hopping (much to my liking in the Impy style, unlike some American versions). The palate isn’t ramped up as much as it might be, but otherwise this is a very likable Impy. Bottle.
3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 jesperhammer (1294) - Copenhagen, DENMARK - JUL 4, 2010
01-JUL-2010, bottle on vacation @Tranum, from "Ølbutikken".
Brown with short off-white head.
Lovely coffee-chocolate nose, with some hoppy bitterness.
Charamel, sweet chocolate and coffee, almost Caffé Latte like.
Easy drinking, not alcoholic in spite of 8%
3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 Atheist_Peace (428) - Halifax, Nova Scotia, CANADA - JUL 2, 2010
330ml bottle. Pour deep brown with bright amber tinges and a pretty tan head that lasts forever. All deep roasted malt on the nose with coffee, caramel and toasted chocolate. Follows through nicely on the palate with a big velvety texture. Much bolder than I’d expected.
3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 Radek Kliber (5171) - Toronto (Can) Krotoszyn (Pol), POLAND - JUN 28, 2010
Bottle 330 ml
Aroma : dark deep roast hint of whiskey , coffee and alcohol.7+
Appearance: dark brown , clear with lighter bone like top. 3-
Flavour and Palate: medium full bodied with thick walls. Good straight roast , plenty of heavy malts with coffee roast at finish. All neatly putted together. Solid well thought work here. Finishing medium dark chocolate. Slight easy going warmth of alcohol. Excellent brew.
3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 Nickls (1297) - SE DC, Washington DC, USA - JUN 21, 2010
(Old BA rate - cask)
Poured with a very thin white head; deep, dense dark brown color. Peaty; roasted malts; bit of booze; bittersweetness. Bittersweet chocolate; light roastiness; some whisky notes; hint of vanilla and peat smoke.Medium to thicker MF; no carbonation really (cask); a little viscous and slick. Nice enough for a sipping brew and I though the cask did the brew justice, if not giving a better drinking experience. Need to try bottled
3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 dcschiller (1457) - Scottsdale, Arizona, USA - JUN 19, 2010
(22 oz bottle). Pours black with red hue and slight off-white head that quickly dissipates. Aroma of caramel, chocolate (basically a tootsie roll). Also, there is a little herbs or pine-some ’greenness’ in the nose. Taste is sweet with some hoppiness. The body is quite light for an imperial stout and thin. Slight bitter finish. Alcohol is well hidden. This almost tastes like a homebrew, but I like it quite a bit. It is not nearly as bold as, say, goose island’s bourbon county stout, but I still like it. I still get that tootsie roll flavor-maybe its not an imperial stout, but rather a tootsie roll stout.
3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20 Fevernova (210) - Athens, Ohio, USA - JUN 15, 2010
650mL Bottle -- Pours black with a small beige head. Aromas of roasted malt, milk chocolate, vanilla, caramel, licorice, raisins, plums, and yeast. Sweeter and lighter in flavor than most imperial Stouts. Full-bodied, yet very smooth and creamy on the palate.
4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 Kinz (2694) - Glen Allen, Virginia, USA - JUN 14, 2010
Pours black, a bit of brown at edges, big loose bubbles die fast. Aroma is cocoa, coffee, and a bit of molasses. Flavor matches, all very big and impressive. Balancing hop bitterness on the finish is very faintly floral. Enjoyable brew, but I have a marked tendency to like Brew Dog offerings it seems.
