COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Cask & Bottled;
It was only a matter of time before the original BrewDog got his paws in on the action. This egotistical young lab has decided to make a beer which best reflects himself. This is the beer equivalent of the big, cute chocolate monster. Soft, smooth, dark, chocolately and very strong. This gentle giant will never bite but would much rather give you a big lick on the face.

Pours a rich amber brown color with almost no head. Aroma is roast, caramel, some brown sugar, and some chocolate. Flavor is brown sugar, caramel, roast, plum, and a bitter roast finish.

22-oz bottle. This is not the kind of in your face imperial stout that I often encounter. It is more like an aggressive version of the traditional british stout. Color is dark brown with very little head with a soapy, lasting lace. Aroma is lactose, chocolate, coffee, intense roast, and alcohol. The alcohol bothered me at first. I swished it around quite a bit to let it breathe. Mouthfee is very smooth - the flavor is extremely roasty, with a lot of coffee character - some sweet chocolate malts ride through the middle, with a bit of plum and dark berry fruitiness as well - but a strong bitterness comes from behind that, making the other characteristics aside from the roastiness disappear from the palate pretty fast - the bitterness lasts quite some time through the finish, but the alcohol never presented itself as I had expected it would. - the dryness and bitterness work well in this one, and I kind of find it refreshing to have an impy that isn’t so over the top. It is one of my very favorites now.

Brew Dog Rip Tide Stout Pours jet black with no head. The bottle was older. Oily appearance. Aroma of coffee, chocolate, molasses and smoky bacon. (the bacon part comes from my wife, her nose can be confused at times) Flavor is very smooth with coffee and dark fruits and some sweetness. Good, but only that. I wish it wasn’t flat, so maybe we will revisit with a fresher bottle.

Smells of severe, oily bitter malt; blast of scotch/whiskey. Dark grape an dates. Smells like a stiff shot of hard liquor, redolent of red wine. Pours deep black, brown at the edges. Zero head, even with a vigorous pour. Notes of chocolate malts, a hint of alcohol, but a mild one. Sweet grapes balance the alcohol. Sweetness is the initial taste, and only a touch of toasted bitterness in the malt. Mild, citrusy hop. Coffee grounds as it warms up. Gritty, with a smooth, oily exterior. A small alcoholic burn going down. A sweetly balanced beer, full of reminders of it’s alcohol content. Chocolate and dark fruits/berries. A nice concoction.

Bottle. 25.4 oz. Pours a deep, opaque cola with a beige, stringy head which fades quickly and leaves some nice lacing. Aroma of chocolate, espresso, toasted malts, barley, toffee, brown sugar, and slight hints of yeast. Fuller bodied with a robust, thick, moderately spicy palate. Finishes with a smooth, long, mildly dry and boozy kick. Great Imperial stout.
