COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Cask & Bottled.
It was only a matter of time before the original BrewDog got his paws in on the action. This egotistical young lab has decided to make a beer which best reflects himself.
This is the beer equivalent of the big, cute chocolate monster.
Soft, smooth, dark, chocolately and very strong. This gentle giant will never bite but would much rather give you a big lick on the face.

NOTE: This beer and Old World Russian Imperial Stout ARE definitely the same beer. Direct, verbatim quote from James Watt follows.
""This is Rip Tide in a 660ml that we made exclusively for Total Wine and More (a US chain). By offering them something unique we were able to ensure they listed Punk and Hardcore

a tad oily on the tongue, the beer has a lot of smoke with a BBQ overtone feel to it. the deep taste of smoke and slight coffee makes goes well with southern cooking. Yummy!!

The aroma is smokey, sweet, chocolaty, malty, and coffee like. The appearance is dark red brown with no head. The flavor is like the aroma and quite flat. The palate is thin due to the flat nature of the beer. Overall this a a decent beer but could be better if it wasn’t flat.

Dark brown, but nowhere near black, with a very big tanned head that settles into a nice lid of lacings. The smell is quite weak considering the style, with mild aromas of roasted malts, caramel, wood and coffee. Notes of brown sugar and chocolate. The taste is on the sweet side, to say the least. Lots of sweet caramel/brown sugar flavors, some gentle notes of roasted malts and chocolate. Hints of dark fruits. The finish has some bitterness to it, notes of alcohol and a pleasant taste of licorice. Overall, not impressive. It lacks complexity and balance. Medium to full body, rather smooth. A bit sticky texture due to the sweetness. Being an imperial stout, this one is underwhelming. It’s very sweet and the caramel flavors almost overpowers the roasted character. It doesn’t taste bad, it’s just boring and it doesn’t deliver what I expect from a good imperial stout. Serving type: on-tap (Copy of old Beer Advocate review)

Pours a dark brown with a soap sudsy tan head that sticks around for a while. Aroma is has a strong molasses note, chocolate malt, light dark roasted character, light citrus hops note and some sweet prune fruitiness. Flavor starts with a chocolate note, moves into a slight citrus bite, low bitter roasted malt bite and finishes with a smooth dark fruit note melded with some dark chocolate. Body is light but has a very creamy texture and the lacing coats the glass very heavily with a tan film. Overall a great brew with an overall smooth palate and a nicely hidden alcohol strength.

Bottle: EXtremely dark ruby-amber coloured, small - but stable - tanned foamy layer; solid dry aromas of roasted malt & molasses on one dide, balanced by sweet dried fruits on the other side; full bodied, mellow instead of merciless, moderate to solid sweet-bitter flavour; increasing bitterness in the robust sweet (fruity) - bitter (roasted malt, molasses) finish, lingering dry malty bitterness in the aftertaste. Good chunky brew...............

Deep brown body with a fine creamy beige head what never disappears fully. Fine aroma opens with roasted grains and coffee, after a while comes some fine spicies like vanilla, dark chocolate and a moderated hop. Rich body and oily texture, fine roasted grains and dark chocolate in the flavor. Mild fruitiness and bitterness with a light caramel and dark chocolate. Long roasted aftertaste. Nice stout!!!

bottle from Berts Bierhuis Utrecht. Pours a dark beer with a decent, brownish head. Hints of roasted malts and coffee in the aroma. Taste is also roasted malts and coffee. Bitter with an strong aftertaste. Very good Imperial Stout. Like to try this one, or other beers by BrewDog, again!
