COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Cask & Bottled.
It was only a matter of time before the original BrewDog got his paws in on the action. This egotistical young lab has decided to make a beer which best reflects himself.
This is the beer equivalent of the big, cute chocolate monster.
Soft, smooth, dark, chocolately and very strong. This gentle giant will never bite but would much rather give you a big lick on the face.

NOTE: This beer and Old World Russian Imperial Stout ARE definitely the same beer. Direct, verbatim quote from James Watt follows.
""This is Rip Tide in a 660ml that we made exclusively for Total Wine and More (a US chain). By offering them something unique we were able to ensure they listed Punk and Hardcore

Cask@Derby Winter Beer Festival, 2008. Dark beer with a reddish tinge and a strong head. The aroma is strongly roasted and the flavour is very strongly syrupy and roasted. Overall an average roasted and syrupy beer.

Bacon aroma - gentle sweet burnt coffee or mocha aroma. Fantastic smooth palate - literally silky. Taste follows the aroma. Lovely strong but well balanced burnt taste - though the burntness is in places a bit astringent - but with enough of a malty body and hoppy bitter edge to keep it interesting.

330ml bottle, Kaisla, Helsinki.
Massively walnutty aroma. Soft palate. Big nutty taste. Very smooth. Full bodied. A touch of toffee nut, some tingles of spice.

UPDATED: JAN 19, 2008 Bottle. Black with a creamy steady light brown head leaving a very good lacing. Aroma of roasted malt, some liquorice and chocolate. Very good filling mouthfeel. The flavour is soft and smooth with a very nice roasty maltiness and comfortable bitterness, dark chocolate, alcohol and some liquorice. Thanks a lot for this beer yespr!

DruncanVeasey (5145) - NUNEATON, Blue Square Prem, Warwickshire, ENGLAND - JAN 14, 2008
Bottled. Pitch pour with ruby edges, and filthy caramel suds receding to a slick. Charred malt aroma wafting with bitter choc, liquorice, smoke and brine. Brackish and yeasty like a Baltic Porter, but the flavour is bittersweet, chunkily smooth, biting with cocoa and lingering smoke, and leaning towards America. Delicious impy.

Lovely balance impy stout. Almost black with a small declining beige head. Hints of smoke and liqourice in the coffee dominated aroma. Somehow i find this quite "old school" - more chocolate, and roastiness than big heavy bite from hops. Straightforward and an instant favourite.

Cask @ The Rake, Borough. Pours a black color with an off-white head. Roasted fruity malty chocolate aroma with some hints of coffee. Sweet roasted malty chocolate flavor. Has a long warming malty chocolate finish with some hoppy bitterness in the aftertaste.

Bottle. Black with a small beige foam. Aromas are roast coffee with dark chocolate. Slightly smoky with some peat earthiness. Flavours are light coffee initially followed by bitter hops and warming alcohol. Very smooth chocolate next with peppery notes and more alcohol. Hints of dates. Some oiliness on the palate. Simple, heady and good.

Close to black and covered by a fair beige head. Immediately roasty nose quickly hints at chocolate, but more of a milk type than the real stuff as considerable residual sugars can be perceived in here. Earthy and leafy nuances act as a complement while a sharper citrus tone peaks into the finish. A rather simple example – it’s no wonder that most ratings can barely reach 2 to 3 lines, yet the ratings remain sky high. Go figure.

Bottle: Poured a dark brown with light brown head. Sweet caramel with strong malt aroma. The taste was similar with caramel and chocolate malt.
