2.7 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 Ernest (5116) - Boulder, Colorado, USA - NOV 26, 2011
Bottle (rated sometime in 2008, BB Jul 09).
Head is mostly diminishing.
Body is dark brown.
Aroma is moderately malty (roasted grain, chocolate, coffee), with notes of ash and cardboard.
Flavor is moderately sweet, lightly bitter.
Finish is lightly to moderately sweet, moderately bitter.
Medium body, watery texture, lively carbonation.
It’s hard to imagine this brewery ever making a decent imperial stout.
3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 Dickinsonbeer (5077) - Hoboken, New Jersey, USA - FEB 6, 2009
Bottle shared thanks to Willblake I think. Pours a Deep dark brown wiht a thinning head. Aroma of chocolate malt, light licorice, anise, earth toast and hints of coffee. More chocolate malt, with a charred acrid balck malt bitterness, herbal and earthy like hops and more anise in the end.

Dark brown color with a smaller hot cocoa head. Lightly toasted and roasted malt in the aroma. A touch of salt water toffee. Not a strong scent, but nothing askew. Light sweet licorice in the start. Quite enjoyable for a professed licorice hater. Middle is full of sweetened coffee, Toasted, hearty whole grain bread, blackberries and a hint of pencil eraser (resin?). Very light carbonation. Finish is lightly sweet and linger is of sweet roasted malt and some mild honey roasted nuts. I find no trace of alcohol. A very enjoyable stout.
3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 BBB63 (4939) - La Porte, Indiana, USA - JUL 18, 2008
Bottle and served in my Stone IRS snifter: Basically opaque with an initial frothy tan head which fades and leaves okay lace upon the glass. The aroma has notes of plum, prune, chocolate, anise, coffee, and charred malts. The taste is quite balanced with sweet malt, acidity, bitters, and some ashy and spicy notes upon the finish. While the mouth feel could use a tad more thickness, it is still smooth and very drinkable. Overall a very solid Impy.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 HogTownHarry (4809) - Toronto (Harbourfront), Ontario, CANADA - OCT 10, 2007
Bottle (330ml). Shared with blankboy and tupalev, my bottle. Deep, near opaque ruby pour, smallish dimishing frothy tan head. Dry, acidic aroma, initially it seemed a tad vegetal, but it burned off to dark roast chocolate coffee malt, dry herbal hops. Taste - even drier and more sour, cocoa and coffee, milk chocolate linger. Smooth, silky on the palate, lightly acidic, creamy finsih. I like it!
3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 Drake (4803) - Charlottesville, Virginia, USA - JAN 23, 2010
650 mL bottle from Wine Warehouse in Charlottesville, VA. Batch 173?... kinda faded. Best before 7/7/10. Pours a deep, dark brown color, opaque in the glass, with a thin brown head. Decent head retention and lacing. Aroma is very chocolately, almost like a tootsie roll, also some cocoa, caramel, tobacco and roasted malts. Taste is chocolate, tobacco, roasted malts, coffee, light cherry-like fruity notes and leafy hops. Medium bodied and smooth. I like this.
