3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20 Glouglouburp (4558) - Montreal, Quebec, CANADA - APR 16, 2009
In short: A peaty and very dirty stout.
How: Bottle 330ml. Consumed relatively fresh, almost 1 year before best-before date.
The look: Black body topped by a few beige bubbles acting as a head
In long: Unusual nose of peat, leather bag, old shoes and such. No kidding. Really dirty nose, I didn’t mind it at all and found it intriguing. Taste is again intriguing but just not that good. Body is rather viscous and lifeless, like a watery tar or something. Carbonation is minimal. Some old black coffee approaching old coffee filter flavour. Chocolaty too but again the chocolate doesn’t come out as standard bitter black chocolate. More like earthy/peaty buttery chocolate without much bitterness. Pretty fucked up and far from clean but surely not uninteresting. Just as long as you don’t mind an imperial stout that is as clean as a Pilipino prostitute after a fleet American battleships left town.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 Dogbrick (4531) - Columbus, Ohio, USA - JUN 12, 2009
Pours a very dark brown color with a medium khaki head that recedes steadily. Rings of lacing on the glass. Aroma of cocoa, mild coffee and malt. Medium, smooth body with flavors of sweet chocolate, coffee and malt. Mild hops in the background. The finish is sweet chocolate and toasted malt with a short chocolate malt aftertaste. Above average overall.
3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 sayravai (4526) - Helsinki, FINLAND - FEB 26, 2009
(Bottled) Very dark cola brown with a smallish, but firm, beige head. Roasted malt and lots of milk chocolate in the nose, with hints of milky sourness, but also some strange, gluey-stingy-sweaty side-aroma. Sweetish-malty flavor with some licorice, and a burned-roasty charcoal finish. Medium, slightly thin body with low carbonation. In a way quite similar to Slottskällans IS, but much more rough on the edges, and not nearly as smooth and balanced.
4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20 jonas (4506) - Garching b. München, GERMANY - MAY 16, 2011
Bottle. Dark brown with a claret shine, lacing and frothy brown head. Flowery hops layered on chocolate and port aroma. Dark chocolate, espresso dryness, rum, light tobacco, slight bite in the end, a layer of hops leads to the dark chocolate retronasal. Chewy dry, light sparkly mouthfeel. Well put together and enjoyable, I was hoping for a great desert and got it.
3.7 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 Braudog (4473) - Hampton, Virginia, USA - JUL 10, 2009
Bottle. Poured black with nothing but a watery gurgle of to top it off, a disappointing start. But the manly aroma gets me reinterested and on the first sip I’m completely turned into a fan. Rich with flavor, this is a delicious brew -- full of dark fruit, coffee, and a nice bitter finish. (#3596, 11 July 2009)
3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 tiggmtl (4467) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - OCT 4, 2009
Milk chocolate in the nose with plenty of underlying fruitiness. Opaque dark brown body is topped by a low tan-brown head that recedes to a partial cover with some lacing. Raisins, roasted malts and hickory suffuse the chocolate sweetness with a lingering interplay between bitterness and sweetness in the aftertaste. Medium full body with moderate carbonation that is pleasantly effervescent. Tulip glass. Cellar temperature. Bottle purchased at Brewery Creek in Jul-09.
