It was only a matter of time before the original BrewDog got his paws in on the action. This egotistical young lab has decided to make a beer which best reflects himself. This is the beer equivalent of the big, cute chocolate monster. Soft, smooth, dark, chocolately and very strong. This gentle giant will never bite but would much rather give you a big lick on the face.

A very dry thick aroma. Looks fantastic. This is basically a very respectable thick Russian Imp Stout but not outstanding in any particular way. A bit lighter than some but quite tasty nonetheless.

The aroma is smokey, sweet, chocolaty, malty, and coffee like. The appearance is dark red brown with no head. The flavor is like the aroma and quite flat. The palate is thin due to the flat nature of the beer. Overall this a a decent beer but could be better if it wasn’t flat.

Near black colored with red hints. Medium sized beige head. Sweet licorice-roasted and chocolaty aroma, salty note also comes up. Medium to full bodied, smooth palate. Flavor is more roasted with licorice still dominating, biting hops in aftertaste with thin alcohol still. Somehow unbalanced flavor with too strong dryness after smooth palated start.

660mL at Total Wine in Jax, FL. Cool label design. Pours a crystal clear dark bloody ruby with a larger, cinnamon mocha head. Good retention and widely spaced swathes of lace. Nose is richer chocolate and spiced dessert. Cinnamon truffle character. Muted overall though. Taste is a bit harsh with a lot of char and ash. Big metallic character and blood iron. Gets some frozen broccoli and vegetal off characters. Very strange. Harsher mouthfeel. Lighter bodyl for style. Decent.

I drank this from the bottle into my Orval glass. The beer is black with a light head not much retention or lacing. The aroma is light giving off coffee and a lot of black licorice which I do not like. The taste is light and the feel is watery. There is some coffee, more licorice. Overall, this is a terrible stout, light tasting, terrible feel, just boring.

Hearty stout. The kind that puts hair on your chest. Jet black with little to no head. Chocolate and caramel notes. Some coffee too. Rated 8/2/09

Bottle from Bierkonning. Pitch dark black, with a pencil thin white head. Nose of roasted malt and molasses. Taste of vanilla, chocolate and dark roast. Also toffee, coffee and the usual stout suspects. A real delight. Only minor criticism is the very smokey finish, but I imagine some like that. Hats off to this excellent Scottish brewer.

Pours a deep black color with a thin beige head. Aroma of licorice, chocolate and mild alcohol. Flavor of licorice and chocolate with some roasted malt. The body is light to medium and the carbonation is moderate, the mouthfeel feels mostly boring.
