COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Cask & Bottled.
It was only a matter of time before the original BrewDog got his paws in on the action. This egotistical young lab has decided to make a beer which best reflects himself.
This is the beer equivalent of the big, cute chocolate monster.
Soft, smooth, dark, chocolately and very strong. This gentle giant will never bite but would much rather give you a big lick on the face.

NOTE: This beer and Old World Russian Imperial Stout ARE definitely the same beer. Direct, verbatim quote from James Watt follows.
""This is Rip Tide in a 660ml that we made exclusively for Total Wine and More (a US chain). By offering them something unique we were able to ensure they listed Punk and Hardcore

Served on tap at BrewDog Camden into a tulip style glass (Dec ’11). Not too much of a head, maybe a finger, dark brown to black in colour. roasted malt and toffee smells came across, however the aroma was somewhat lacking in charectar. taste wise roasted malts, toffee/coffee, a little chocolate and a slightly burnt roast flavour. served a little too cold to be able to appreciate this beer fully and the flavour/taste improved as the beer warmed up in my glass. mouthfeel - a little on the thin side for a beer of this strength.

Bottle. [thanks to the parents for bringing this home!]
Pours a deep, deep brown, almost non-seethrough. A smallish beige head on top, fizzing away rather quickly. Aroma has liquoirice, roasted malts and chocolate. Nice and oily mouthfeel. Flavour is a bit alcohol, some mild chocolate tones, roasted malts, dry cocoa. Rather simply perhaps, but very nice. Gets much better as it heats up.

Cask conditioned at Oxford Beer Fest ’07. Black with slight tan head. Looking like crude oil in a glass, this is a big thick sweet, fruity beer with a touch of cough medicine in the background. Blackberry and a hint of banana, I couldn’t get too far beyond the sweetness. Tricky for a beer fest because it stays in the mouth for some time.

33cl bottle from ølbutikken dark brown, small thick smooth light brown head. aroma is dominated by chocolate and toffee. also some hops. flavor is sweet, slight chocolate, roasted grains, sligthly flowery probably from hops, much depper and complex than the aroma. ends quite roasted, malty sweet and hoppy. nice one. palate is thick and creamy. overall a great beer, except the aroma is not really letting you know what it is like.

UPDATED: DEC 29, 2009 3rd LCRBM. A fast rating, because the end of the session was near. Somewhat smoked aromas and flavors detected through the roasted malt. Good stout, although I preferred the aroma to the flavor. Bottle @ home. 29.12.09. Deep dark brown color. Raisin, dried fruit and oak in the aroma. Full bodied, low on carbon. Oaky tarry flavor. Hints of peaty smoke. Dried fruit and raisin. Fairly well balanced mix of peaty tarriness and dried fruit. Could use more carbon, though.

A deep dark stout with a thin off white head. Aroma of bitter chocolate, dust, dark fruits, and fruity esters. In mouth, a nice lightly sweet chocolate, milkey, smooth, lightly hopped but sustained burned bitterness. A bit lighter bodied than expected. Not bad. Bieropholie Imports, BB 10-02-10.
