COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Cask & Bottled;
It was only a matter of time before the original BrewDog got his paws in on the action. This egotistical young lab has decided to make a beer which best reflects himself. This is the beer equivalent of the big, cute chocolate monster. Soft, smooth, dark, chocolately and very strong. This gentle giant will never bite but would much rather give you a big lick on the face.

Just OK stout from this brewery which makes some great barrel aged stuff. The stout is quaffable, its not offensive, but there is no complexity,nor bold flavours.With so many good double stouts out there, why waste your bucks on this premium priced import. A bit above average mouthfeel and black colour with a moderate head.

Bottled. Poured deep brown with a short cap of beige head. The aroma picked up dark chocolate, brown sugar, and lesser coffee with earthy and grassy hoppage around.. almost artificially sweet, but quite enjoyable. The flavor was also on the sweet side with chocolate and roasted barley at the core.. bitterness was light and earth-inspired.. a little warm, but alcohol was not overt. This was very average for the style, but quite servicable.

bottle. Almost black colour, mid-sized beige head. Full-bodied, chocolate, caramel, bitter chocolate, cocoa powder - impressive hoppy finish.

UPDATED: JUN 9, 2008 My dog, its like chocolate thats hort thats cold, this is infact the best scottish beer iv ever had, and its s style i dont really like. Chocolate body, smooth oiley boy, really well balanced, alcohol is just not there. Rerate: Cask Blackfriers. Good chocolate malt character, however a bit overly roasty. Rerate : Bottle from Martin the brewer. Alcohol too pronounced, roasty character trys to hide it but stays overpoweringly and pisses me off. RERATE:Bottle from the ben nevis. Aroma is roasty burnt, alc is clear also. Taste is similar, the roasted barley mutes out any of the chocolate notes i like.

Bomber poured a clear dark brown nearly black with a small lasting tan head. Aromas of smoke, roasted malt, coffee, bitter chocolate, light graininess and a hint of vanilla. Palate was medium bodied and smooth witrh a lightly dry finish. Flavors of smoke, roasted malt, bakers chocolate, light coffee and a hint of anise with a smooth dry lingering bitter roasty finish.

UPDATED: AUG 25, 2008 Cask conditioned at Oxford Beer Festival 12-10-07 Poured jet black, with tan head. aroma of coffee, some raisins and a hint of cocoa. this was rather intense in flavour loads of dark fruits vying for attention with some coffee and just about everything else that’s in there but like Doppelganger (previous rater) who I think is spot on, it’s just a bit too much it may well be better bottled and left to age for a while. It also pretty much knackered my next beer. Had this again In field at Towersey Festival, Oxon, w/e 20th-25th August 08 The strength is really quite apparent but there are plenty of hops and lovely roasted malts leap into the afray, some bitter coffee at rear of mouth, nice beer and I’ve upped the rating from 3.4 to 3.6.

Bottle. Sweet to start, chocolatey, slightly ashy, earthy malt notes. Finish is bitter and slightly leafy in the finish. Roastyness is always there, probably a little less complex than i was expecting, but still a great stout. very tasty.
