Cask & Bottled;
It was only a matter of time before the original BrewDog got his paws in on the action. This egotistical young lab has decided to make a beer which best reflects himself. This is the beer equivalent of the big, cute chocolate monster. Soft, smooth, dark, chocolately and very strong. This gentle giant will never bite but would much rather give you a big lick on the face.

22.4 oz. bottle. Pours black with a moderate tan head that lasted through two-thirds of the glass and left an almost solid sheet of foam on the glass. Very pleasant aroma of chocolate, roasted malt, coffee, and prunes. The roasted malt is more dominant in the flavor, while the chocolate takes a step back. A bit of prune in the flavor as well along with a few notes of tobacco. Moderate bitterness. Medium-full bodied. Enjoyable.

Lovely balance impy stout. Almost black with a small declining beige head. Hints of smoke and liqourice in the coffee dominated aroma. Somehow i find this quite "old school" - more chocolate, and roastiness than big heavy bite from hops. Straightforward and an instant favourite.

Very dark and aromatic. Lots of malts, chocolate, licorice, coffee and hops on the aroma. The same with the taste. A very intense beer.

UPDATED: SEP 14, 2008 Bomber. Pours fairly black with a spotty whitish head comprised of rather large bubbles. The aroma is something of a departure for an imperial stout. It has the coffee and roast going on, but it has a solid hickory and light spiced character too. I don’t get a lot of dense roastiness, but I do seem to find something creating a sharp, almost citrusy sensation. The flavor is a bit heavier and certainly roastier. Actually, the coffee presence in the flavor is quite delightful. This fades to an ashy, smoky note. Sappy hickory is noted throughout. I start to detect hints at raisins and a dash of port qualities towards the end of the snifter, but I think the drier flavors are Riptide’s strong suit. This is a pretty tasty beer, but not very large. I liked it but not enough to drop that kind of cash for another bomber.

Pours dark brown, with a tan ring of bubbles for a head. Rich coffee and chocolate, roasted oats, and toffee. More sweet than bitter in the taste. Chocolate and coffe a prevalent, as is the roasty grain and malt, some smoke, caramel, and dark fruit. I liked how the beer avoided the soy sauce taste that can pop up with other Imperials. Excellent.

This one pour a very dark brown almost black color with a small tan head. Aroma was nice roasted malts, some coffee and some silky sweetness as well. Flavor was smooth chocolately somewhat dark, coffee hints and nice roasted maltiness as well.

Bouteille 330ml.

Bottle (330ml). Shared with blankboy and tupalev, my bottle. Deep, near opaque ruby pour, smallish dimishing frothy tan head. Dry, acidic aroma, initially it seemed a tad vegetal, but it burned off to dark roast chocolate coffee malt, dry herbal hops. Taste - even drier and more sour, cocoa and coffee, milk chocolate linger. Smooth, silky on the palate, lightly acidic, creamy finsih. I like it!
