COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Cask & Bottled;
It was only a matter of time before the original BrewDog got his paws in on the action. This egotistical young lab has decided to make a beer which best reflects himself. This is the beer equivalent of the big, cute chocolate monster. Soft, smooth, dark, chocolately and very strong. This gentle giant will never bite but would much rather give you a big lick on the face.

Bottle, thanks rickgordon. Dark opaque brown with a medium beige head. Mildly roasted character with coffee and some notes of green pepper. Medium bodied and creamy smooth. Very well balanced, perhaps a bit to harshly bitter.

UPDATED: NOV 6, 2007 A Mes and Sim rate (33cl bottle at Chris O’s Shindig and numerous times since.)
Dark, almost black body with a creamy tan head. Sweet perfumey aroma, dark and complex with fruit, chocolate and plenty of malt. The flavour hits you with alcohol, a bit of coffee, heavily malted and some nice balancing hops. Thick dark chocolate and coffee finish with a pronounced and pleasing bitterness. Lovely stuff.

Black color with limited carbonation. Aroma of dates and cola. Very chewy and thick, the high octane makes this a slow sipper. Roasted coffee maltiness with solid hoppy kick at the end.

Bottle. Deep dark brown, almost black with a small beige head. Vanilla, chocolate and espresso nose. Earthy notes as well. Nice woody chocolate, earthy character, good balance. A great complex brew, for dedicated beer dogs!

Cask Handpump from the Darwin Suite at the Assembly Rooms, Derby 12/07/2007 Slight roast aroma. Black strong in alcohol and smooth on the palate with some dryness in a crisp and bitter lasting roast finish.

Bottle. Low but lasting creamy light brown head. Clear dark ruby body. Coffee choccolate aroma with a bit of hops bitterness in the background. Sttrong and lovely coffee flavor with choccolate. Very nice palate. Can almost feel the coffee beans. Strong but still smooth and nice without alcohol taste. Low carbonation and a very long aftertaste.

Pours a very dark ruby with a tan fluffy head. Aroma features confected malt character with hints of green banana, astringent grain and chocolate. On the palate there is a creamy mouth feel, chunky chocolate and toffee a resiny hop note and a long balancing roasty finish. Great strong stout but not an Imperial in my opinion.

750mL bottle pours deep mahogany with nice firm looking mocha head. The aroma has dark roasted malts, dark roasted coffee and a mild level of spicy black licorice. The taste is rich with plenty of dark roasted malts moving into near burnt malts and some spiciness kind of like black licorice. Wow this is lovely, rich, highly roasted and all good. I dig it!

Courtesy of THE tpd975. Pours deep brown with amber edges and almost no head. The aroma is roasty malts, mild wood and smoke to go along with a pulse of vanilla. The taste is roasty moving toward burnt malts and then into wood and mild smoky peatiness. Pretty nice stuff. It thins out into the finish. Starts bold and then finishes with smooth and light lingering notes of wood, peat, smoke and molasses.
