Scauca (237), Lovere, Italy Aug 30, 2008 Dark brown with a nice tan lacing head. Chocolate, caramel, little coffee. Very rounded and smooth. Flavour is of bitter cocoa, malty with a dry end. A long aftertaste. pickled (45), New Zealand Aug 29, 2008 33oml bottle exp 22/11/08. Looked good when poured with a decent head. It didn’t t last. Plenty of flavour but a bit sour and astringent. Burnt. clean finish though. I could taste the alcohol too. Too thin for a stout. Not bad but not up to my expectations of this style. nearbeer (1224), Knoxville, Tennessee, USA Aug 27, 2008 650 ml, batch 004, bb 9-9-09. Nearly opaque with a two-finger head that settles to an enduring quarter-inch and leaves a frosty-soapy lacing behind. Earthy aromas of cocoa, coffee and peat with hints of caramel and marshmallow. Tastes of coffee, chicory, dark chocolate, smoked peat, oak and just enough vanilla-caramel (with a hint of apple) to balance all the bitter roast flavors. Medium-heavy body is neither too watery nor too syrupy. Creamy smooth with light carbonation and slightly dry. The_Sponge (145), Lynnwood, Washington, USA Aug 26, 2008 Batch 002 Best Before 07/07/09. Pours a very dark brown with minimal head. Flavor: Slightly bitter, with hints of coffee and smoke. lithy (137), Knoxville, Tennessee, USA Aug 25, 2008 Batch 004 Best Before 09/09/09 Pitch black pour with a very thin light tan head that rims the glass but otherwise disappears. Potent roasty character with slight hoppiness and some bitter chocolate. Nice roasted malts in the taste and a nice but not overly bitter hop finish. A little one-dimensional even for a fairly classically styled RIS. Nice burnt smoke aftertaste lingers.
