COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Cask & Bottled.
It was only a matter of time before the original BrewDog got his paws in on the action. This egotistical young lab has decided to make a beer which best reflects himself.
This is the beer equivalent of the big, cute chocolate monster.
Soft, smooth, dark, chocolately and very strong. This gentle giant will never bite but would much rather give you a big lick on the face.

NOTE: This beer and Old World Russian Imperial Stout ARE definitely the same beer. Direct, verbatim quote from James Watt follows.
""This is Rip Tide in a 660ml that we made exclusively for Total Wine and More (a US chain). By offering them something unique we were able to ensure they listed Punk and Hardcore

from old notes Inky brown-black under a sudsy tan head. Mild coffee and ash nose followed by milk chocolate, prunes and some sweat. Strong taste compared to the aroma; very sweet and roast-bitter with mild acidity and moderate finishing bitterness. Viscous through thinned a bit by hot alcohol, low carbonation, oily texture. Smells and tastes a bit dirty; carbonation feels a bit too low; hot alcohol. 33 cl bottle.

Bottle: old world russian imperial stout from Total Wine price- $5.99. This was a beer we found tucked away in the back and picked it up because of the price. A RIS pint for 5.99?? Oh yes, and one heck of a good RIS it proved to be. making a trip back to total wine to buy much more of this one, as its a perefect every day brew, finely crafted and a Bargin!

Pours a dark amber with some what of a head. Aromas of whiskey upfront, toasted malts, slight oak. Flavors of toasted malts, dark chocolate, light wood, slight smoke, and has a touch of whiskey but very subdued and unexpected as it comes through the nose quite well. Burnt roasted aftertaste, very bitter, smokey. First beer rated by brewdog.

Completely black with a nice, thick tan head. Heavy espresso-like coffee aroma. Strong taste with malts and roasted coffee. Great, lasting aftertaste also. Smooth mouthfeel with tickly carbonation. Overall, very nice imperial stout.

Bottle:   Labeled as Old World Russian Imperial Stout, acquired via trade with smith4498:   Pours black, faint deep brown edges, moderate frothy light beige head, fairly decent lacing.   Rich roasted malt nose, slight dark pitted fruit, dark chocolate, and a touch of graham cracker.   Slightly astringent on the tongue.   Not as complex tasting as the nose suggested.   Simple roasted malts with very muted dark pitted fruit.   Body and mouthfeel are moderate to full.   Has an assertive figgy aspect that comes and goes quickly.   Lingering roasted malts and slightly astringent dark pitted fruit and dark chocolate.   Meh... not bad, better than a lot of others, but in the whole grand scheme of things pretty average for a Russian Imperial Stout.   Thanks for the bottle Jason!

Black appearance with medium thick tan head. Tastes of licorice, whiskey, and bitter hops. Dry mouthfeel. Tried with Erol and Paul after a Sunday roast.

Bottle at pub. Pours a black colour with a small light brown head that stays all the way to the last sip. Nice! Fantastic aromas of coffee, dark bitter chocolate and dried fruits. I find the same good stuff in the flavour along with some wood. The beer feels both thick and smooth, and the carbonation make it feels like a coffe smoothie. I could eat this with a spoon! Medium bitterness. A lovely stout. More, please!
