4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 18/20 Benjii (2396) - Edinburgh, SCOTLAND - MAY 16, 2012
In bottle at Craig’s BrewDog tasting. Pours a very dark brown colour with a thin light tan head. Highland Park whiskey aromas of honey and oak with sharp raspberries, roasty malt, chocolate and caramel. Similar flavours with moderate carbonation and a foamy mouth-feel. Mildly bitter with lingering sour raspberry and lemon flavours.
4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 Frenger (213) - Derby, Alabama, ENGLAND - APR 27, 2012
Bottle from brewdog.com. When I first had this it brought a tear to my eye. Simply stunning in every way. It has slightly worsened with age but it is still a stunning beer.
3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 aleph (192) - - APR 8, 2012
Bottle @ Mikkeller. Black, tan head. Fruity - raspberry, cranberry, dark fruits. Wood, roast, peat? Maybe unbalanced, still worth it.
4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 magdalar (475) - Zurich, SWITZERLAND - APR 3, 2012
375ml bottle, 2009.
Pours black, with a tan head.
Smells of raspberry (reminding me of those raspberry-jam-filled-chocolates), malt, and a hint of whisky.
Tastes very nice; heavily malted, with roast, raspberry, some alcohol, slightly acetic.
Medium bodied, medium carbonation, oily texture.
Finishes somewhat tart, with a tingling of the tongue which lasts.
4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 Palme (1437) - Bergen, NORWAY - MAR 28, 2012
0.375l bottle # 372 of 1060 from Mikkeller Bar. I have really been looking forward to popping this, well, I’ve also been a bit reluctant on the thought of not having this in my beer-cellar anymore, but hey, it has to go sometime, yeah? Anyhow, it pours a near black body with a small ashy head that quickly fades away in to a little colony of islands in the glass. The aroma? Oh my! It actually reminds me a lot of Abstract#3 with tons and tons of those fruity raspberries. Here is also lots of wood, clear licorice and a good sweetness from strawberries. Really amazing! Flavors: Oh, it’s really oaky-woddy with a quite oily texture. Also, it has a light sour-ish flavor with tads of smoke, lots and lots of raspberries and there is even a hint of rhubarb in this one! I really liked this one, and it gives me both pleasure (in tasting it) and some sadness (in knowing that it’s gone) when I’m drinking this. 09.03.2012
3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 skortila (4160) - Baarn, NETHERLANDS - JAN 21, 2012
Bottled, thanks Noize. The aroma has roast, coffee, whisky, lots of fruitiness. Black coloured with a thin, off white head. The taste is light sweet, bit sour. It has berries, roast, whisky peat, coffee/chocolate. Medium bodied. Loads of different taste sensations, very nice, but lacks a little balance. Definately worth a try.
3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 jbeatty (168) - Washington DC, USA - JAN 14, 2012
Tasted 05/22/2011. Pours dark maroon, nearly black, a healthy healthy one-finger head, fading to hazy foam, and thick lacing. Nose carries rich, raspberry jam over undercurrents of caramel and oak. Taste is chocolate, medium sweet raspberries, smoky roastiness and long whiskey finish. Medium palate, little carbonation, but coats the mouth. Actually quite a nice brew.
4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 maledictum (541) - Granada, SPAIN - JAN 10, 2012
Black - brown head. Berry tartness. Whiskey. Fruity. Smokey. Light ashtray. Raspberry. Light spicy. High raspberries. Wooden notes. Nice.
4.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20 Brandman (1067) - Helsinki, FINLAND - JAN 10, 2012
Black body, red hue, light brown head. Aroma is really complex - roasted malt, chocolate, peated and berryful, alcohol and some almondy sweetness. Flavour has much roasted notes and berries, sugar. Little on the imperial stout side, but doesn’t matter. Excellent brew and really well balanced. I liked the way the black raspberry taste came through.
4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 rosenbergh (3486) - Helsinki, FINLAND - DEC 17, 2011
375 ml bottle. #364/1060. From bierkompass.de.
Black colour with small dark tan head.
Whiskey and caramel sweetness, some strange berriness (I’m not familiar with black raspberries) and some sourness I really can’t quite describe.
Flavour is more Imperial Stout but lots of interesting flavours. The berry flavour is very strong as well as whiskey sweetness and peat smokiness. Some sourness also present. Gets even better when warms. Complex and very enjoyable. Perfect dessert.
