Duft af kaffe. Mørk som en porter. Smager porter agtig af kaffe og chokolade men også af blomme. Rar eftersmag.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
Aroma: Strong roasted, a bit sour tones. Coffee beans, burnt wet old pine or juniper wood.
Appearance: The beer is pitch black, with a tone to the red, a brown strong head leaving tons of lacing.
Taste: A very raw burnt taste, bitter beans, and yet floral pine. A sweet, dusty, taste in the background.
Palate: Low carbonation, a rough dry feeling.
Overall: Nope - not a favorite, complex but a bit unbalanced.
Note: Bottle. Reviewed 2010-03-02.

3.1 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Poured from 12oz. bottle into pint glass.
A: Pours a light black with a light tan head that quickly disappears. A nice film stays across the top of this brew.
S: This is quite the interesting combination of smells. I smell some roasty malts with a hoppy coupling. There are some woody characteristics as well.
T: At first I pick up dry malts and some barley almost like a very light stout. This transforms into a little sweet and bitter hop backbone that floats throughout the drink.
M: Medium bodied with a very oily feeling. Light carbonation as well. Goes down ok and it’s pretty deceptive from the sight.
O: This was an interesting brew. Some good flavor profile but I don’t think it works as a beer I would come to again and again. It’s ok.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
Pours a black liquid can´t see anything through it at all with a mocha head that disappears pretty quickly. Aroma is of coffee, chocolate, raisins, berries, cherries, dark fruits, earthy, bready. Taste is chocolate, roasted malts, berries, dark fruits, cherries, quite hard to describe, earthy, fruty, liqourice!, salty. An interesting brewfor sure! I am sure this tasted alot different when it was released some years ago. Great brew!

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20
S: Is this a stout!? Rich dark chocolate, coffee and molasses - vanilla and woody notes.
A: Looks great: pours black with a great, creamy, single finger beige head.
T: Rich dark chocolate comes through - overall very bitter. The coffee is there in a porter-esque way - oak notes
P: Chewy with soft carbonation - yes!
O: What kind of beer is this - robust porter? imperial chocolate stout? the bottle says Black Belgian DIPA.. those crazy kids

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle from Cardinal in Niles. (I see now a 12/19/10 bottle date) Pours inky black with a foamy chocolate milk head. Terrific lacing. Aroma has licorice, charcoal, molasses, fruity hops and alcohol. Very imperial stout-y in look and smell. Taste has sweet chocolate, subtle citrus and heavy roasted malts. Thick and syrupy. Finishes long, thickly bittersweet with a hint of salt. Imperial stout? I see an american strong-ness to it, but holy cow - not what I was expecting from a Stone collaboration.

3.1 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
A-- Poured black and more black. No tints of red, no nada. Thought I was going to get no head and then POW! A solid one finger mocha brown head explosion. Once dissipating it left spotty lacing with compacted bubbles. No real carbonation (after the head come down) and a few small bubbles on the glass.
S-- Not as citrus based as I had hoped. More earthy tones with a good amount of a vanilla smell to this. Yep, get a biscuit smell to this ( belgian yeast) and a very sweet smell (other than vanilla) to this. More malty and kind of think this was in wood.
T-- Chocolate, coffee, lots of malt to this and very little hops. Earthy and thick. Not what I was expecting.
M-- Good carbonation for the style but the taste is not what I expected. More like a RIS with all the malt. Hop taste came towards the end and then got the pine and grapefruit feel to it. Mouthfeel is better than the taste.
D-- ABV is noticeable but it works. I think the hops have dropped off a lot in this. it works as a strong ale pretty well.

On draft..retired? Have seen this on tap lists in 2 spots in DE. Double black ipa-decent hop kick, loads of roasted malt, nice aroma and dark color. Chocolate undertones, no detection of the alcohol at all, enjoyable

2.6 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
Out of the bottle pours black like oil. Has a dense, oily, deep tan head. Smells oaked and has dark (burnt) malt and alcohol aromas. Tastes the same. Is it cool to just make beers that get you drunk quickly without having to drink that much? That goes against my American credo. Obviously this wasn’t made here. The brewer’s endless rhetoric in the description just confirms this.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle 33 cl. Coal black beer with a small Baige head. Aroma of roasted malt and caramel with notes of smoke. Sweet taste of hard roasted malt with notes of smoke and hops. Moderately bitter in taste and aftertaste
